finished work would reach; the altar of burntoffering which showed Jesus' suffering on earth, was at the door of the Tabernacle.

What was Aaron to do to this altar once a year?

He was to make an atonement on the horns of it once a year, with the blood of the sin offering, showing that Jesus had once for all, atoned for sin, and made all holy.-Heb. ix. 26-28.

What was the ransom money?

Half a shekel of silver, after the shekel of the Sanctuary, given by the children of Israel, when they were remembered as an offering unto the Lord.

What striking directions were given about this money?

The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less.

Why was this?

Because it was the atonement money, and the Lord showed that all needed a ransom for their souls before the Lord, and that the rich and the poor, were of equal value in his sight.

What is said to those who are atoned for by the blood of Christ?

"Ye are bought with a price, therefore glorify God in your bodies and in your spirits, which are his."

What was placed between the Tabernacle and the altar of incense?

A laver of brass, in which Aaron and his sons were to wash their hands and feet, when they went into the Tabernacle, or drew near to the altar of incense.

Of what was this continual washing a type? Of the holiness which becometh the Lord's house for ever.

Of what other things do we read in this chapter?

Of the holy anointing oil (v. 22—31), and the holy perfume.-v. 34-38.

Describe their separate uses, and their typical meaning?

The Tabernacle and the altar of burntoffering, with the vessels of the sanctuary, were anointed with the holy ointment, as also Aaron and his sons.

What effect was this holy ointment to have on all it was put upon?

It was to make them all "most holy." What may this sweet ointment remind us of?

Of the work of the Holy Ghost, who sanctifies and makes that holy which Christ has redeemed.

Why were they forbidden to put it on man's flesh ?

Because it remains ever an evil and corrupt thing, for "in the flesh dwelleth no good thing."

Where was the Holy perfume put, and what did it represent?

It represented the sweet and holy perfume and fragrance of the merits of Jesus, and was placed before the testimony or place of God's especial presence, of which he said, "there will I meet with thee."

What was especially forbidden in connection with the Holy ointment and perfume?

They were forbidden on pain of death to compound any thing like the holy ointment, or put it on a stranger, and of the holy per

fume it has been said, "Whosoever shall make like unto it, to smell thereof, even he shall be cut off from his people."

What may we learn by this command?

The danger of counterfeiting the work of the Holy Ghost, or substituting any thing for the perfume of Christ's presence; in either case those so deluded are cut off from the true worship of God, and the blessings connected with it.

CHAP. XXXI.

What provision did God make for carrying out all his purposes connected with the Tabernacle and its furniture ?

The Lord spake to Moses saying, See, I have chosen by name Bezaleel, of the tribe of Judah. And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship.

Of whom may this Bezaleel, of the tribe of Judah, remind us?

Of Jesus, the true Prince of Judah, who was filled with the Spirit of God from his mother's womb, and in whom are hid the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, to devise and to carry through all the work of God for us.

Who were associated with Bezaleel?

Aholiab, and in the hearts of all that were wise-hearted, God put wisdom, to do all he commanded.

About what was their wisdom especially occupied ?

The Tabernacle, the Ark, the Mercy-seat, the pure candlestick, the altar of incense and burnt offering, the cloths of service, and the holy garments for Aaron and his sons.

About what are the wise-hearted now called to be occupied ?

They should seek to help forward the unity of Christ's body as set forth in the Tabernacle and its furniture, and to maintain the pure worship of God, as revealed to us in the mercy-seat, and the way of approach to it in the one sacrifice of Jesus, and his work
