Of vows. CHAP, XXX. 1 Vows are not to be broken. 3 Ofa maid's, 6 a wife's, 9 a widow’s vow. ND Moses spake unto the heads of the tribes concerning the children of Israel, saying, This is the thing which the Lord hath commanded. 2 If a man vow a vow unto the Lord, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth. 3 * If a woman also vow a vow unto the Lord, and bind herself by a bond, being in her father's house in her youth: 4 And her father hear her vow, and her bond where with she hath bound her soul, and her father shall hold his peace at her: then all her vows shall stand, and every bond wherewith she hath bound her soul shall stand. 5 But if her father disallow her in the day that he heareth ; not any of her vows or of her bonds wherewith she hath bound her soul shall stand: and the Lon D shall forgive her, because her father disallowed her. 6 And if she had at all an husband when she vowed, or uttered aught out of her lips, where with she bound her soul; 7 And her husband heard it, and held his peace at her in the day that he heard it : then her vows shall stand, and her bonds wherewith she bound her soul shall stand. 8 But if her husband disallow her on the day that he heard it; then he shall make her vow which she vowed, and that which she uttered with her lips, wherewith she bound her soul, of none effect: and the LoRD shall forgive her. 9 s But every vow of a widow, and of her that is divorced, wherewith they have bound their souls, shall stand against her. 10 And if she vowed in her husband's house, or bound her soul by a bond with an oath ; 11 And her husband heard it, and held his peace at her, and disallowed her not: then all her vows shall stand, and every bond wherewith she bound her soul shall stand. ' 12 But if her husband hath utterly made them void on the day he heard them; then whatsoever proceeded out of

her lips concerning her vows, or concerning the bond of her soul, shall not stand : her husband hath made them void; and the Lord shall forgive her. 13 Every vow, and every binding oath to afflict the soul, her husband may establish it, or her husband may make it void, 14 But if her husband altogether hold his peace at her from day to day : then he establisheth all her vows, or all her

bonds, which are upon her: he confirm’ eth them, because he held his peace at her inje day that he heard them. 15 Brif he shall any ways make them widiffer that he hath heard them ; then he shall bear her iniquity. 15 These are the statutes which the LoRD summanded Moses between a man and his wife, between the father and his daughter, bring yet in her youth in her father's house. CHAP. XXXII. The Reubenites and Gadises sue for their inheritance on the cast side of Jordan. OW the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle : and when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that behold, the place was a place for cattle ; 2 The children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spake unto Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and unto the princes of the congregation, saying, 3 Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Shebam, and Nebo, and Beon, 4. Even the country which the Lon D smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle, and thy servants have cattle : 5 Wherefore, said they, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession, and bring us not over Jordan. 6 || And Moses said unto the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben, Shall i. prethren go to war, and shall ye sit ere : 7 And wherefore discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel from goi over into the land which the Lord i. given them 2 8 Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land. 9 For when they went up unto the valley of Eshcci, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which the Lor D had given them. 10 And the Lon D's anger was kindled the same time, and he sware, saying, 11 Surely none of the men that came up out of o from twenty }. old and upward, shall see the land which i sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob : because they have not wholly followed me: 12 Save Caleb the son of Jephunnch the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun : for they have wholly followed the Lon D. 13 And the Lorn's anger was kindled against 1srael, and he made them wanden in the wilderness forty years, until all time generation that had done evil in the sight of the Lop D was consumed. 14 And behold, ye are risen up in youn father's stead, an increase of sinful men,

to augment yet the fierce anger of the LQR D toward Israel.
