XXXVI.

O Lux Beata Trinitas.

1. Blessed light of triune ray,

Though the Sun's bright flame expire, Brighten darkness into day

By an inward milder fire.

2. Then, with morning's early song,
In the evening's latest prayer,
Ever shall my grateful tongue
Thee my Hope, and Trust declare,

3. Let eternal praise proclaim
Far and wide Salvation's boast,
This, Jehovah's sacred name,
FATHER, SON, and HOLY GHOST.
+

XXXVII.

1. Immortal honour, endless fame, Ascribe unto the FATHER'S name! And let the Son be glorified,

Who wept and suffer'd, bled and died : And equal adoration be

Eternal SPIRIT paid to thee.

1. We give immortal praise
TO GOD THE FATHER'S love;
For all our comforts here,
And better hopes above:
He sent his own eternal Son

To die for sins, which man had done,

2. TO GOD THE SON belongs

Immortal glory too;

Who bought us, with his blood,

From everlasting woe;

And now he lives, and now, he reigns,

To see the fruit of all his pains.

3. TO GOD THE SPIRIT'S name

Immortal worship give, Whose new creating pow'r

Makes the dead sinner live;

His work completes the great design, And fills the soul with joy divine.

4. ALMIGHTY GOD, to thee

Be endless honours done,

The undivided THREE,

And the mysterious ONE;

Where reason fails with all her powers, There Faith prevails, and love adores.

XXXIX.

Josh. X. 12.

1. "Stand still, refulgent Orb of Day!" The Jewish conqueror cries;

So shall at last an angel say,
And tear it from the skies.

2. A flame intenser than the Sun,
His golden Orb shall burn :
Times empty glass no more shall run,
Nor human years return.

3. Then with immortal splendour bright, That glorious SUN shall rise,

+

Which thro' eternity shall light

The new created skies.

4. Redemption's triumph, then complete;
JESUS Our Lord shall place,
Before his heavenly Father's seat,
The heirs of life and grace.

5. Then Sun of Nature roll along,
And bear our years away;
The sooner shall we join the song
Of everlasting day.

XL.

1. Great God ! let all

my tuneful powers
Awake and sing thy mighty name :
Thy hand revolves my circling hours,
That hand from which my being came.

2. To thee, I raise the annual song;
To thee my grateful tribute give;
For thou dost still my years prolong,
And midst unnumber'd deaths I live.

3. My life, my health, my friends I owe,
All, to thy vast unbounded love,
Ten thousand precious gifts below,
And hope of endless joys above.

4. Thus, will I sing, till nature cease, Till sense, and language be no more; And, after Death, thy love and grace

Thro' everlasting years adore.

XLI.

1. Again the flight of Time I sing,
Time, who, with swift unweari'd wing,
His annual circuit flies;

Thus measuring out the dates of all,
Men and their works before him fall,
And other beings rise.

2. A year has pass'd, and with it borne
Vast crowds, while crowds are left to mourn
Some dear departed friend;

A year begins; but who can know
If it shall bring him bliss or woe?
Or he shall see its end?

In this uncertain state of things,
True wisdom, consolation brings,
From the Eternal's throne!

Time's wide events his counsels plann'd ;
The wheels are guided by his hand,
And roll his praise alone!

4. Ere men their final doom receive, A little space, a short reprieve,

For penitence is giv'n :
