3 And the ANGER of the LORD was kindled against Ifrael, and he DELIVERED them into the Hand of Hazael King of Syria, and into the Hand of Benhadad the Son of Hazael, all their Days.

4 And Jehoahaz BESOUGHT the LORD, and the LORD HEARKNED unto him: for he faw the OPPRESSION of Ifrael, because the King of Syria oppreffed them.

5 (And the LORD gave Ifrael a Saviour, so that they went out from under the Hand of the Syrians: and the Children of Ifrael dwelt in their Tents, as beforetime.

6 Nevertheless they departed not from the SINS of the House of Jeroboam, but walked therein, and there remained the Grove alfo in Samaria.)

7 Neither did he leave of the People to Jehoahaz, but fifty Horsemen, and ten Chariots, and ten thousand Footmen; for the King of Syria had deftroyed them, and had made them like the DUST by THRESHING.

9 And Jehoahaz flept with his Fathers, and they buried him in Samaria, and Joafh his Son reigned in his ftead.

10 In the thirty and feventh Year of Joafh King of Judah, began Jehoafh the Son of Jehoahaz to reign over Ifrael In Samaria, and reigned fixteen Years.

II And he did that which was evil in the fight of the LORD; he departed not from all the Sins of Jeroboam.

12 And the reft of the Acts of Joafh, and all that he did, and his Might wherewith he fought against Amaziah King of

ر

of Judah, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Ifrael?

13 And Joash flept with his Fathers, and Jeroboam fat upon his Throne: and Joafh was buried in Samaria with the Kings of Ifrael.

14 Now Elifha was fallen fick of his Sickness whereof he died, and Joafh the King of Ifrael came down unto him, and WEPT over his Face, and faid, O my Father, my Father, the Chariot of Ifrael, and the Horfemen thereof.

15 And Elisha faid unto him, Take Bow and Arrows: and he took unto him Bow and Arrows.

16 And he faid to the King of Ifrael, Put thine Hand upon the Bow and he put his Hand upon it: and Elisha put his Hands upon the King's Hands.

:

17 And he faid, Open the Window Eastward: and he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot: and he shot. And he faid, The ARROW of the LORD'S DELIVERANCE, and the Arrow of Deliverance from Syria: for thou fhalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have confumed them.

18 And he faid, Take the Arrows: and he took them, And he faid unto the King of Ifrael, Smite upon the Ground and he fmote thrice, and stayed.

19 And the Man of GOD was wroth with him, and faid, Thou shouldst have smitten five or fix times, then hadft thou fmitten Syria, till thou hadft confumed it: whereas now thou fhalt fmite Syria but thrice.

II. CHRON. CHA P. XXV.

1 Amaziah beginneth to reign well: 3 He executeth Justice upon the Traitors: 5 Having hired an Army of Ifraelites against the Edomites, at the Word of a Prophet, he lofeth the hundred Talents, and difmiffeth them: 11 He overthroweth the Edomites. 13 The Ifraelites difcontented with their Dif miffion, spoil as they return home. 14 Amaziah proud of his Victories, ferveth the Gods of Edom, and defpifeth the Admonitions of the Prophet: 17 He provoketh foab to bis Overthrow: 25 His Reign: 27 He is flain by Confpiracy.

Ver. 1 AMAZIAH was twenty and five Years old when

he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and

nine Years in Jerufalem.

z And he did that which was RIGHT in the fight of the LORD, but not with a PERFECT HEART.

3 Now it came to pafs when the Kingdom was established to him, that he SLEW his Servants that had killed the King his Father.

4 But he SLEW not their CHILDREN, but did as it is WRITTEN in the Law in the Book of MOSES, where the LORD commanded, faying, The FATHERS fhall not DIE for the CHILDREN, neither fhall the CHILDREN DIE for the FATHERS, but every Man fhall DIE for his own SIN.

5 Moreover, Amaziah gathered Judah together, and Benjamin: and he numbred them from twenty Years old and above, and found them three hundred thoufand choice Men, able to go forth to War, that could handle Spear and Shield.

6 He hired alfo an hundred thousand mighty Men of Valour out of Ifrael, for an hundred Talents of Silver.

7 But there came a MAN of God to him, faying, Ọ King let not the ARMY of ISRAEL go with thee; for the LORD is NOT with ISRAEL, to wit, with all the Children of Ephraim.

8 But if thou wilt go, do it, be ftrong for the Battle: GOD fhall make thee FALL before the Enemy: for GoD hath Power to HELP, and to CAST DOWN.

9 And Amaziah faid to the Man of God, But what shall we do for the hundred Talents which I have given to the Army of Ifrael? And the Man of GoD answered, The LORD IS ABLE to give thee much more than this.

10 Then Amaziah feparated the Army that was come to him out of Ephraim, to go home again: and they returned home in great Anger.

II And Amaziah ftrengthened himfelf, and led forth his People, and went to the Valley of Salt, and fmote of the Children of Seir ten thousand.

12 And other ten thoufand left alive, did the Children of Judah carry away Captive, and brought them unto the top of the Rock, and caft them down from the top of the Rock, that they were broken all in pieces.

13 But the Soldiers of the Army which Amaziah fent back, that they should not go with him to Battle, fell upon the Cities of Judah, from Samaria even unto Beth-horon, and fmote three thoufand of them, and took much Spoil.

14 Now it came to pass after that Amaziah was come from the Slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the GODS of the Children of SEIR, and fet them up to be His

GODS,

GODS, and BOWED down himself before them, and burned INCENSE unto them.

15 Wherefore the ANGER of the LORD was kindled a gainst Amaziah, and he fent unto him a PROPHET, which faid unto him, Why haft thou fought after the Gods of the People which could NOT DELIVER their own PEOPLE OUT of thine Hand.

16 And it came to pafs, as he talked with him, that the King faid unto him, Art thou made of the King's COUN SEL? FORBEAR; why shouldft thou be fmitten? Then the Prophet forbare, and faid, I know that God hath DETERMINED to DESTROY thee, because thou haft done this, and haft not HEAR KNED unto my Counsel.

17 Then Amaziah King of Judah took Advice, and fent to Joafh, faying, Come, let us fee one another in the Face.

18 And Joafh King of Ifrael fent to Amaziah, faying, The Thistle that was in Lebanon, fent to the Cedar that was in Lebanon, faying, Give me thy Daughter to my Son to Wife and there paffed by a wild Beast that was in Lebanon, and trod down the Thistle.

:

19 Thou fayeft, Lo, thou haft fmitten the Edomites, and thine Heart LIFTETH thee up to boast abide now at home, why fhouldft thou meddle to thine Hurt, that thou fhouldft fall, even thou and Judah with thee,

20 But Amaziah would not hear, for it CAME of GOD, that he might deliver them into the Hand of their Enemies, because they soUGHT after the GODS of Edom.

21 So Joafh the King of Ifrael went up, and they faw one another in the Face, both he and Amaziah King of Judah, at Beth-fhemesh, which belongeth to Judah.

22 And Judah was put to the worfe before Ifrael, and they fled every Man to his Tent.

23 And Joafh the King of Ifrael took Amaziah King of Judah the Son of Joafh, the Son of Jehoahaz, at Bethfhemesh, and brought him to Jerufalem, and brake down the Wall of Jerufalem, four hundred Cubits.

24 And he took all the Gold, and the Silver, and all the Veffels that were found in the Houfe of GoD with Obed-edom, and the Treafures of the King's Houfe, the Hoftages alfo, and returned to Samaria.

25 And Amaziah the Son of Joash King of Judah, lived after the Death of Joash Son of Jehoahaz King of Ifrael, fifteen Years.

27 Now after the Time that Amaziah did, TURN away from FOLLOWING the LORD, they made a Confpiracy against him in Jerufalem, and he fled to Lachifh: but they fent to Lachifh after him, and flew him there.

28 And they brought him upon Horfes, and buried him with his Fathers in the City of Judah.

CHA P. XXVI.

1 Uzziah fucceeding, and reigning well in the Days of Zecha riah, profpereth: 16 Waxing proud, he invadeth the Priest's Office, and is fmitten with Leprofy: 22 He dieth, and fotham fucceedeth him.

TH

HEN all the People of Judah took Uzziah, who was fixteen Years old, and made him King in the Room of his Father Amaziah.

3 Sixteen Years old was Uzziah, when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and two Years in Jerufalem.

4 And he did that which was right in the fight of the LORD, according to all that his Father Amaziah did.

5 And he souGHT GOD in the Days of Zechariah, who had UNDERSTANDING in the VISIONS of GoD: and as long as he souGHT the LORD, GOD made him to PRO

SPER.

6 And he went forth and warred against the Philistines, and brake down the Wall of Gath, and the Wall of Jabneh, and the Wall of Afhdod, and built Cities about Afhdod, and among the Philistines.

7 And GOD HELPED him against the PHILISTINĖS, and against the ARABIANS that dwelt in Gur-baal, and the Mehunims.

8 And the Ammonites gave Gifts to Uzziah, and his Name fpread abroad even to the entring in of Egypt, for hé ftrengthned himself exceedingly.

9 Moreover, Uzziah built Towers in Jerufalem, and

fortified them.

10 Alfo he built Towers in the Defert, and digged many Wells, for he had much Cattle, both in the Low-Coun trey, and in the Plains: Hufbandmen alfo, and Vine-dreifers in the Mountains, and in Carmel: for he loved Hufbandry.

11 Moreover, Uzziah had an Hoft of fighting Men, that went out to War by Bands.
