BE IT REMEMBERED, That on the sixth day of September, in the fifty-fifth year of the Independence of the United States of America, A. D. 1830, WILLIAM GRIMSHAW, of the said District, has deposited in this office the title of a book, the right whereof he claims as author, in the words following, to wit:

“ The History of South America, from the Discovery of the New World by Co. lumbus, to the Conquest of Peru by Pizarro; interspersed with amusing Anecdotes, and containing a minute Description of the Manners and Customs, Dress, Orra. ments, and Mode of Warfare of ihe Indians. By William GrimshawAuthor of a History of the United States; a History of England, and of France; the Life of Napoleon, &c.”

In conformity to the Act of the Congress of the United States, entitled, “ An Act for the Encouragement of Learning, by securing the copies of maps, charts, and books, to the Authors and Proprietors of such copies, during the iimes therein men. tioned," and also to the act, entitled, "An Act Supplementary to an Aci entitled An Act for the Encouragement of Learning, by securing the copies of maps, charts, and books, to the authors and proprietors of such copies during the times therein mentioned,' and extending the benefits thereof to the arts of designing, engraving, and etching historical and other prints."
