Pharsalia libri X. folio, very tall copy, calf neat, excessively rare, £4. 4s s. 1. & a. This is the second edition of Lucan, and is supposed to have been executed about the year 1470. It is particularly described by Dr. Dibdin, Bibl. Spenc. 2. 139. The Pinelli copy, which wanted the four preliminary leaves, sold for £17.178.

This is an elegant reimpression of the quarto edition by Hemsterhusius and Reitzius, comprising the whole of their notes and commentaries. The editors have prefixed their usual Notitia Litteraria, two new indexes are added, and the text has been rendered more correct by a collation of the MSS. in Paris, and a comparison with the Basle and Saumur editions, which had before been overlooked.

Renouard, in his Annales des Aldes, gives a detailed account of the volume, describing it as "importante pour le texte, et d'une rarité excessive," Sir Mark Sykes' copy sold for £7., and another con sold for £10. 108.

This was Sir Mark Sykes' copy, and appears to have cost him £16. 168.

"A sumptuous and celebrated edition; of which the Large Paper copies in folio, with plates, used to be held in great estimation by the curious. On Large Paper (of which the number is supposed not to have exceeded 12 copies) it struggles to maintain a price between 5 and 10 guineas."-Dibdin.
