UGHELLI ITALIA SACRA . . editio secunda cura Nicolai Coleti, 10 vols. in 9, folio, LARGE PAPER, with coats of Arms; vellum, scarce Venetiis, 1717-22

An invaluable collection of material for the history of the Church. Ughelli, who died in 1670, had spent thirty years of patient labour in compiling it, and the augmentations made by Coletus in this edition gave the work a monumental importance. No historical library can dispense with the "Italia Sacra.” Venice. DARU (P.) Histoire de la République de Venise, 8 vols. 8vo. map, calf gilt

of views, etc. mounted on guards, fine large copy in old Dutch calf, with
the Earl of Jersey's bookplate, EXCESSIVELY RARE
1656-95 14 10

This copy contains everything described in the Earl of Crawford's Collation under
the following numbers, except the cancels and such things as I mention farther on.

Contains Nos. 2, 4, 6, 9, 13, 15, 17, 18, 21, 22, 25, 26, 29, 30, 33, 31, 37, 39, 42, 43, 47, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 60, 94, 95, 98, 99, 100, 101, 123, 124 and 125 of Lord Crawford's Collation.

No 25: this copy has not the plate (unknown to La Serna-Santander) occupying the inner pages of sig. H. No. 37: no title in this copy. No 50 the slip containing the 3 lines is not pasted at the foot of page 8 in this copy. No. 53: this has not the first plate of the Abbey (unknown to La Serna or Vander Haeghen). No. 99: (1) the portrait not here; (2) the folding view of the "Parochia B. V. M. de Laca," is in duplicate here. No. 100: this copy has not the unfinished plate of the " Neapolis Montis Acuti" (unknown to Vander Haeghen), the finished plate No. (101) being pasted in its place. No. 123: this wants the title and 2 unnumbered preliminary leaves. No. 124: this wants plates (a) and (b), the first of which Lord Crawford doubts belonging to the work, and neither of which are mentioned by La Serna or Vander Haegen. No. 124 it is to be noted that the four plates on pages (g) and (h) are not arranged in this copy in the manner described by Lord Crawford, one of (g) and one of (h) being on the same page, and the remaining two of course on the other.

It must be remembered that Lord Crawford has described everything known to belong to the work, besides several doubtful pieces, that not one of the 9 or 10 known copies contains everything mentioned by his lordship, and that only 2 or 3 examples of some of the pieces exist.

It is extremely unlikely that a more complete copy will occur for sale.
