47 And that repentance and reniis-| eion of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48 And ye are witnesses of these things.
49 IT And, behold, 1 send the promise1 of my Father upon you : but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
JOHN. of Christ.
60 IT And hf .en them outasfaras lo Bethany; and he lifted up his hands,
and blessed them.
51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.
52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy;

The GOSPEL according to St. JOHN.
IN the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness j and the darknesscoinprehended it not.
6 TT There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Li^bt, that aU men through him might believe.
8 He was not that Light, but wassem to hear witness of that Light.
9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the eons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 IT And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
15 U John bare witness of hirn, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me; for he was before me.
16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
17 For the law was given by Moses, 'but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is
the boiom of the Father, he hath declared Mm.
19 IT And this is the record of John, when theJews sent'pnestsandLevites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?
20 And he confessed, and denied not: butconfessed, I am not the Christ.
21 And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias ? And he saith, 1 am not. Art thou that prophet P And ho answered, No.
22 Then said they unto him, Whc .rt thou ? that we may give an answei
to them that sent us: what sayest thou of thyself?
23 He said,l am the voice of one cry ng in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaiaa.
21 And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.
25 And they asked him, and said unto iim, Why baptizestthou then, if thou
be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?
26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth >ne among you, whom ye know not;
27 He it is, who coming after me, is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.
28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.
29 TT The next day John seeth Jesus joming unto him, and saith, BHtnM the Lamb of God, which take I h nwnj the sin of the world!
30 This is lie of whom 1 said, After | me comelh a man which is preferred before mc ; for he was before me.
31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am 1 come baptizing will) water.
32 And J )hn bare record, saying, 1 saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with wa same said unto me, Upon win shalt sec the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizefh with (he Holy Ghost,
34 And I saw, and bare record that] this is the Son of God.
35 IT Again, the next day after,John stood, and two of his di/eiples;
36 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he sailh, Behold the Lamb of God!
37 And the two disciples heard him ppeak, and they followed Jesus.
33 Then Jesus turned, and eaw them following, and sailh unto them, What seek yep They said unto him,Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Blaster,) where dwellest thou?
39 He saith unto them, Come and nee. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.
40 One of the two which heard John fpco/c.and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
41 He first lindeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being in-1 lerpreted, the Christ
42 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the sonofJona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is, by interpolation, A stone.
43 IT The day following, Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.
44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus ofNazaretb, the son or" Joseph.

Nazareth? Philip saith unto hint, Come and see.
47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and sailh of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile I
48 Nalhanael said unto him.Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under ths fig-tree, I saw thee.
4£> Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.
50 Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw tliee under the fig-tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.
51 And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, 1 fay unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angelo of God ascending and descending up
the Son of man.
AND the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and ihe mother of Jesus was there.
2 And both Jesus was called, and lis disciples, to the marriage.
3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him,They have no wine.
4 Jesus saith unto her,Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.
5 His mother saith unto the servants. Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the mariner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or threefirkins apiece.
7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waer-pots with water. And they filled hem up to the brim.
8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of

9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine,
.1 knew not whence it was, (butthe vanta which d rew the water knew,)

17 And his disciples remembered, that it was written, The zeal of thy house hath eaten me up.

22 TT After these things came Jesus j and his disciples into the land of Judea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.
23 1T And John also was baptizing in vEnon, near to Salim, because there was much water there ; and they came, and were baptized:
24 For John was not yet cast into prison.
25 17 Then there arose a question between some of John's disciples and the Jews, about purifying.
26 And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond. Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.

WHEN therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,
2 (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)
3 He left Judea, and departed again into Galilee.
4 And he must needs go through Sanaria.
5 Then cometh he to a city of Samaia, which is called Sychar, near to the
parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.
6 Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, beingwearied with/us joursat thus on the well: and it was
about Uie sixth hour.
There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus saitii an to icr, Give me to drink.
8 (For his disciples were gone away into the city to buy meat.)
9 Then saitii the woman of Samaria into him, How is it that thou, being a few, askest drink of me, which am a voman of Samaria? (for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.)
10 Jesus answered and said unto her, [f thou knewest the gift of God, and

H The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?
13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
It But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of watei springing up into everlasting life. ^
15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that 1 thirst not, neither come hither to draw.
16 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.
17 The woman answered and said, 1 have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:

20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, Unit in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.
21 Jesus saiUi unto her, V Jieve me, die hour cometh, shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship Uie Father.
22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
23 But the hour eomeUi, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father iii spirit and in truth; for Uie Father seeketh such to worship
24 God is a Spirit: and they thatj worship him, must worship him in spirit and in truth.
25 The woman saith unto him, 1 know tlmt Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.
26 Jesus saith unto her, 1 that speak mi to thee am he.
27 IT And upon this came his disciples, and marvel ed that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, Whatseekest thou? or, Why talkest) thou with her?
23 The woman then left her water pot, and went her way into the city and saith to Uie men,
29 Come, see a man which told me all things that ever 1 did: is not this the Christ?
SO Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.

33 Therefore said the disciples one to anoUier, Hath any man brought him aught to eat?
34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, arid then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
