They took up the crumbs with thanks, and her looks were so kind, they thought they would come each day, and found so large a store, that they thought it more kind to go to her with their next brood, than be a load to their old friends, who had a great flock to feed; but Fred and Har-ri-et had the joy to see them at times; and knew them from all their kind by some marks, which so long a stay with them had taught them to look for.

Rob, as his Pa had told him to do, and as he too had a wish to do, kept close to Mrs. Ben-son's house, where he was a great pet. He had, when in the care of the old birds, made trips to the grove, and was by their aid taught to get up to the trees, but his wing did not get so well as to let him take long flights; still he found that he

was free to do what he might please; and in the warm months, he spent most of his time out, and slept in trees but went to the house each day, and there at most times he met Pecks, who took up her roost in the field, where she met her Pa and Ma. Dick and Flaps who thought they were too grave, flew here and there. In a short time they were both caught in a trap and put in the place for birds which Dick had said he had a wish to live in. Here they were at first most sad; but in a short time they thought of what their good Pa had told them, and they made the best of their lot, and each met with a mate, with whom they spent their days with good cheer.

It would be well for the brute kind if every one, like Mrs. Ben-son, thought of the good of those that more want help than they do, and

did not spoil them by too much love or hurt them by want of all that is kind. It would be well for man if all, like her, should act on the will of God, and should train their own minds and those of their young folk, to do to all as they wish to be done by. From what I have said, I hope all who read these things, will choose the best to do, as they did, and that the rest will warn them, or else this tale of the Red-breasts will be told them in vain.

THE END.
