RUSI A. HO' his Britannic majefty is faid To have acceded to the treaty between the two empreffes, the Czarina had prohibited the trade through her dominions to Perfia; but on a memorial prefented to her by the English merchants, the has order'd their privileges to be reftored under fome new regulations.

The conclufion of a peace between the porte and Perfia, is, inftead of being confirm'd, contradicted by the last letters from Perfia, which fay that the conditions propofed by the Schach Nadir prove difagreeable to the Turks. He demands, 1. That the Grand Sig. nior deliver up to him the pretender to the throne of Perfia. z. Give in marriage to his grandfon a princefs of the blood, with, and for her dowry, fome of the principal frontier towns which lie advantageous for Perfia. And 3, That the porte grant liberty to the Perfians to vilit the tomb of Mecca on the fame footing with their own fubjects.Thefe letters add, that the ambassadors of both parties would not fet out 'till March for fettling the negociation; the place however for it is not fix'd..

The council of four, which was eftar blifh'd immediately on the revolution

fucceeding, was abolish'd by a general affembly of the people, who form'd a new council of 34 perfons of all profeffions, excluding all noblemen. This councel was to affemble every day for direction of affairs, and to give an account of their tranfactions to the general aflembly every fortnight. The heads of this modern government coined a large quantity of money, having on one fide St John Baptift patron of the city, and on the reverse Pro Libertate, "For B liberty.' This new establishment however is likely to prove of but fhort duration; firff by the surrender of the citadel of Savona to the Piedmontefe, the Gengefe garrison of 1400 men being made prisoners of war; and fince that by forcing the important pafs of Bo C chetta by the Auftrians, in which attack many of the defendants were cut to pieces, and the rest with all the peaTants in arms obliged to retire within the capital, which is not expected to make a long defence, fince troops are marching allo from Savona, and Gavi, to inveft it on thofe fides, while an D English fquadron blocks it up by fea.-And indeed, fome letters mention overtures of fubmiffion being made, the city having no ftock of provifions(S.p.13) HOLLAND.

An agreeable harmony appears be-
tween the emprefs queen and the King
of Prufia, who has declared_himself
very well pleafed with her affurances,
and with an edict lately published by
her majeky to prevent the spreading of E
falle rumours. The Margrave of Ba-
den Durlach has profeffed the Roman
catholick religion in order to marry the
heirefs of Baden; and the catholics boast
of the fpeedy converfion of a much
greater prince.His Prufian majefty
has given leave for the papilts at Berlin,
to build a church as large as they please.

All the inftances of the E. of Sandwich have not induced the states to enter into the guaranty of Silefia to the K. of Pruffia; they have however engag'd to do their utmost in conjuncti on with the Austrians to compofe for the D. of Cumberland, an army of 140000 men, to be early in the field; for this end they are completing their national troops with all diligence, and hiring others in Germany, in order to compleat their quota of 50,000 men.

The probability of the allies fucceeding against France, this enfuing campaign, is ready ftated to our hand by an able (and by fome circumstances a noble) writer, who reckons France weaker by above 240,000 men, than 80 G in fome former campaigns, at the fame time that their revenue is reduced by the

The king has at laft declared the count de Saxe, marfhal de camp general, in which he will command not only marthals of France, but princes of the blood; he told the king, when he drank to him by that title, that "his only "with was to deferve it as well as M. The French to comfort themselves for the ill fuccefs of d'Anville's squadron (which they remark, however, was not thro' the ill conduct of the commanders) E have publish'd in their Gazette an account of M. Conflans's uninterrupted voyage: On April 29, he fail'd from Rochelle with 230 merchant fhips, and, with four men of war only, (tho' he was waited for by near forty) convey'd them fafe to the W. Indies. In July he was on his return with another fleet and fell in with 5 English men of war under Commodore Lee, who civilly let them pafs. In August he had the fame complaifance fhewn on meeting with commodore Mitchell. In Sept. he fell in with the English Leeward Island trade, took the Severn one of their convoy, and feveral rich merchant ships:

An embargo is laid at Dunkirk and ports adjacent, on all the privateers, in order to man a squadron now fitting out.
