15 Psalm.

1

WHO

7's.

"HO shall tow'rd thy chosen seat
Turn in glad approach his feet?

Who shall at thine altars bend?

Who to Zion's hill ascend ?

2 Who, great God! a welcome guest,
On that hallow'd mountain rest?
He whose heart thy love has warm'd,
Whose will is to thine conform'd.

3 He who, by thy love constrain'd,
Treads the path by thee ordain'd,—
He, great God! shall own thy care,
And thy constant blessing share.

16 Psalm.

MY

C. M.

Y soul shall bless the gracious Lord,
Whose precepts give me light,

And private counsel still afford

In sorrow's dismal night,

2 I strive each action to approve
To his all-seeing eye;

No danger shall my hopes remove,
Because he still is nigh.

3 Therefore my heart all grief defies,
My glory does rejoice;

My flesh shall rest in hope to rise,
Wak'd by his pow'rful voice.

4 Thou shalt the paths of life display
That to thy presence lead;

Where pleasures dwell without allay,
And joys that never fade.

17 Psalm.

SIN

C. M.

INCE heretofore I ne'er in vain
To thee my pray'r address'd,

Oh now, my God, incline thine ear,
And grant me my request.

2 The wonders of thy truth and love
In my defence engage;

Thou, whose right hand preserves thy saints
From their oppressors' rage.

3 Then I, in uprightness, thy face
Shall view without control;

And, waking, shall its image find
Reflected in my soul.

[blocks in formation]

1 NO change of times shall ever shock

My firm affection, Lord, to thee;

For thou hast always been my rock,
A fortress and defence to me.

2 Thou my deliv'rer art, my God;

My trust is in thy mighty pow'r:
Thou art my shield from foes abroad,

At home my safeguard and my tow'r.
3 To heav'n I made my mournful pray'r,
To God address'd my humble moan;
Who graciously inclin'd his ear,

And heard me from his lofty throne.

4 Let the eternal Lord be prais'd,

The rock on whose defence I rest;
O'er highest heav'n his Name be rais'd,
Who me with his salvation bless'd!

19 Psalm.

THE

C. M.

HE heav'ns declare thy glory, Lord,
Which that alone can fill;
The firmanent and stars express
Their great Creator's skill.

2 The dawn of each returning day
Fresh beams of knowledge brings;
And from the dark returns of night
Divine instruction springs.

3 God's perfect law converts the soul,
Reclaims from false desires;

With sacred wisdom his sure word
The ignorant inspires.

4 Let no presumptuous sin, O Lord,
Dominion have o'er me;

That, by thy grace preserv'd, I may
The great transgression flee.
5 So shall my pray'r and praises be
With thy acceptance bless'd;
And I, secure on thy defence,
My strength and Saviour, rest.

[blocks in formation]

O thy salvation, Lord, for aid,
We cheerfully repair,

With banners in thy Name display'd,
"The Lord accept thy pray'r.'

2 Our hopes are fix'd, that now the Lord
Our Sov'reign will defend;
From heav'n resistless aid afford,
And to our pray'r attend.

3 Some trust in steeds for war design'd,
On chariots some rely;

Against them all we'll call to mind
The pow'r of God most high.

4 Still save us, Lord! and still proceed
Our rightful cause to bless :

Hear, King of heav'n! in times of need,
The pray'rs that we address.

21 Psalm.

THE

C. M.

HE King, O Lord, with songs of praise,
Shall in thy strength rejoice;

With thy salvation crown'd, shall raise
To heav'n his cheerful voice.

2 Because the king on God alone
For timely aid relies,

His mercy still supports his throne,
And all his wants supplies.

3 Thus, Lord, thy wondrous strength disclose,
And thus exalt thy fame;

Whilst we glad songs of praise compose
To thy almighty Name.

22 Psalm.

1

C. M.

MY God, my God, why leav'st thou me

When I with anguish faint?

Oh! why so far from me remov'd,
And from my loud complaint?

2 Ye worshippers of Jacob's God,—
All you of Israel's line,—

Oh, praise the Lord! and to your praise
Sincere obedience join.

3 He ne'er disdain'd on low distress
To cast a gracious eye;
Nor turn'd from poverty his face,
But heard its humble cry.

4 Thus in thy sacred courts will I
My cheerful thanks express,
In presence of thy saints perform
The vows of my distress.

23 Psalm.

1

THE

C. M.

THE Lord himself, the mighty Lord,
Vouchsafes to be my guide;

The Shepherd by whose constant care
My wants are all supplied.

2 He does my wand'ring soul reclaim,
And, to his endless praise,
Instruct with humble zeal to walk
In his most righteous ways.

3 I pass the gloomy vale of death,
From fear and danger free;
For there his aiding rod and staff
Defend and comfort me.

4 Since God does thus his wondrous love
Through all my life extend,

That life to him I will devote,
And in his temple spend.

24 Psalm.

1

C. M.

FRECT your heads, eternal gates,

Unfold to entertain

The King of glory! See he comes,
With his celestial train!

2 Who is this King of glory? who?
The Lord for strength renown'd;
In battle mighty, o'er his foes
Eternal victor crown'd.

3 Erect your heads, ye gates, unfold,
In state to entertain

The King of glory! See, he comes,
With all his shining train!

4 Who is this King of glory? who?
The Lord of hosts, renown'd;
Of glory he alone is King,
Who is with glory crown'd.
