The Hospital contains 40 beds; the number of patients annually admitted into the Labour Wards amount to nearly 750, whilst those attended at their own homes from the Hospital considerably exceed double that number.

A Ward has been allocated for the treatment of Female Diseases and Diseases of Children, and there is likewise connected with the Institution a DISPENSARY for Diseases of Females and Children, Diseases of the Eye, and General Diseases. Clinical Lectures are delivered regularly twice a week by the Masters.

Certificates of Attendance on the Practice of this Hospital, as well as on the course of Lectures, are received by the King and Queen's College of Physicians of Ireland; by the Royal Colleges of Surgeons in Dublin, London, and Edinburgh; by the Universities of London and Glasgow, and the Queen's University in Ireland; by the Marischal College and University, Aberdeen; the King's College, Aberdeen; and the Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow; by the Apothecaries' Halls of Dublin and London; and by the Army, Ordnance, Navy, and East India Medical Boards, &c.

The Hospital contains 250 beds, and is provided with distinct wards for the treatment of fevers, syphilis, diseases of the eyes, and diseases of females. Average number of intern patients, 230 per diem; out-patients, 450 a-week.

Surgical Operations are performed on Saturdays at ten o'clock. Ophthalmic Surgery: Patients labouring under diseases of the eye are attended to on Saturdays at nine o'clock. Midwifery: A maternity department, for the delivery of lying-in women at their own homes, is conducted under the superintendence of the physician-accoucheur. Clinical Lectures are delivered on four days in the week; and Pathological Demonstrations by the Lecturers, as opportunity offers.

LEDWICH SCHOOL OF ANATOMY, MEDICINE, AND SURGERY, PETER-STREET, DUBLIN.

FOUNDED 1810.

This School, claiming priority of foundation many years before any of its kindred unchartered institutions were projected, was established in 1810 by J. Kirby. At this period the Schools of the College of Surgeons and University were the only sources of medical education in Ireland, and this necessarily involved an absence of that competition always conducive to the true spirit of improvement. Since its foundation, this School has maintained its character for the sound principles of its anatomical and surgical instruction, and numbers amongst its former pupils several of the most distinguished teachers of the Irish School of Medicine.

This Hospital contains 130 beds, 15 of which are appropriated to the Diseases of Females. The annual average number of in-patients is 2000; out, 2500.

This Hospital is recognised as a school for the delivery of lectures on Midwifery by the Royal College of Surgeons in England, Scotland, and Ireland, the Apothecaries' Halls of London and of Dublin, and all other licensing bodies. The Diploma is to be acquired by six months' attendance on the practice and lectures of the Hospital, and by passing an examination before the Master and Assistants.

MATER MISERICORDIÆ HOSPITAL, ECCLES-STREET, DUBLIN.

ESTABLISHED 1861.

Three Clinical Lectures will be delivered in each week, in addition to the usual bedside instruction given daily by the Physicians and Surgeons. Surgical Operations performed on Saturday morning. Connected with the Hospital is an extensive Dispensary.

Certificates of Attendance upon this Hospital are recognised by the Colleges of Surgeons of England, Ireland, and Scotland, by the Colleges of Physicians, by the Universities, Apothecaries' Halls, and other Licensing Bodies of the United Kingdom.

WINTER SESSION.

The Hospital is only a few minutes' walk from the College of Surgeons, and from the Ledwich School of Medicine.

Two Medical and Two Surgical Clinical Lectures will be delivered each week.

Operations, performed on the days of Surgical Instruction. Every attention is paid to the instruction of Pupils in the minor operations of Surgery, for which a large daily attendance of extern Patients affords ample opportunity. A Registry of all surgical cases admitted into the Hospital is carefully preserved, and is open to the inspection of the Pupils.

The Medical Clinical Instruction is given by Drs. W. Stokes and A. Hudson.

The Surgical, by Messrs. Porter, M. H. Collis, J. H. Wharton, P. C. Smyly, Rawdon Macnamara, and W. Stokes, jun.

MERCER'S HOSPITAL, WILLIAM-STREET, DUBLIN.

The Hospital stands in the immediate vicinity of four of the principal Medical Schools, and is recognised by all Licensing Bodies. Its average number of in-patients is 50; out, 150 per diem. Cons. Surg., Mr. A. Read.

RICHMOND, WHITWORTH, AND HARDWICKE HOSPITALS. NORTH BRUNSWICK-STREEt, Dublin.

These Hospitals, which are under the control of a Board of Governors appointed by the Lord Lieutenant, contain 312 beds, and have attached to them the Truss Establishment for the relief of the Ruptured Poor of Ireland. Regist., J. W. Hughes.

Two Medical and two Surgical Clinical Lectures are delivered in each week, in addition to the usual Clinical Instruction, which is given daily by the Physicians and Surgeons. Special Courses of Clinical Instruction are given on Fevers and Epidemic Diseases, Diseases of the Eye, and Mental Diseases, and special certificates awarded.

The instruction in Clinical Medicine is given by the Physicians, Drs. D. J. Corrigan, J. T. Banks, B. G. M'Dowel, and S. Gordon. Clinical Surgery by the Surgeons: R. Adams, M.D., Mr. J. Hamilton, R. W. Smith, M.D., and C. Fleming, M.D. Cons. Surg., E. Hutton, M.D.

Practical Pharmacy is taught under the superintendence of Mr. J. G. Kisby, the Resident Apothecary.

A Public Course of Lectures on Comparative Anatomy and Zoology, free to all students, is delivered by the Professor of Anatomy and Physiology, at the commencement of the session, and additional Lectures on the same subject at intervals during the winter. Operative Surgery by the Professors of Surgery, separate from the Surgical Lectures. The Professor of Chemistry receives operating pupils into the Chemical Laboratory. The Professor of Botany will commence a course of Lectures on Structural and Physiological Botany in February. This course, taken in conjunction with that on Comparative Anatomy and Zoology, by the Professor of Anatomy and Physiology, constitutes the course of Natural History required by the Army Medical Board.
