from the press of Peter Targa. In addition, we have thought well to adopt, in a few cases where the text was palpably erroneous or inferior, the correct, and better versions of some of the poems from the author's own editions of 1646 or 1648. In the case of the lovely poem, The Weeper (St. Mary Magdalene) we have followed-as did Dr. Grosart in his edition of Crashaw's Works-the succession of its stanzas as in the edition of 1646. All important variations from, or augmentations to, the text of 1652 (in the main a decided advance upon the texts of the two previous editions) we have noted at the foot of the pages.

In conclusion we have but to express our indebtedness to the editor of "The Fuller Worthies' Library," whose edition of Crashaw's entire works has been of not a little service to us, especially in connection with the text of our author.
