RETURN "comprising (1) THE REPORTS made to the Charity Commissioners, in the result of an Inquiry held in every Parish wholly or partly within the Administrative County of London into Endowments, subject to the provisions of the Charitable Trusts Acts, 1853 to 1891, and appropriated in whole or in part for the benefit of that County, or of any part thereof, together with the Reports on those Endowments of the Commissioners for inquiring concerning Charities, 1818 to 1837 "; and

"(2) A DIGEST showing in the case of each such Parish whether any, and, if any, what such Endowments are recorded in the books of the Charity Commissioners in the Parish."

The Wedgwood Charity.

The Inquiry into this Charity was held on the 7th March 1901 at the Central Office The of the Charity Organization Society, No. 15 Buckingham Street, Adelphi, W.C. Wedgwood Arthur Wedgwood, by his will dated the 3rd February 1899 and proved in the Charity. Principal Registry on the 1st May 1900, devised and bequeathed the residue of his personal estate and all his real estate to his trustees, upon trust for sale and conversion and out of the moneys to arise thereby to pay his funeral expenses debts and legacies, and to hold the residue of the said moneys upon trust, as to one moiety thereof, to invest the same as thereinafter authorised and to pay the income to his brother, Rowland Henry Wedgwood, for life, and after his death to appropriate the sum of 3,000l. for the purpose of founding scholarships, to be awarded by the London School Board; and as to the remainder of the said moiety, to appropriate the same for providing pensions or other relief, to be allotted by or under the direction of the Charity Organization Society for the benefit of persons residing within the Metropolitan area of London; and he declared that the annual income of the fund representing the remainder of the said moiety should be applied for the purpose of providing pensions to aged poor persons of the working class, or the class of domestic or other servants, and for providing such persons, without restriction as to age, and whether old or young, with temporary maintenance in convalescent homes or other suitable establishments when recovering from illness or otherwise in need of rest and change, and that such pensions or other relief should be awarded by or under the direction and control of the Charity Organization Society and should be distinguished as "The Wedgwood Charity," and that the recipients of such pensions should be deserving poor persons not less than 60 years of age, or disabled by sickness accident or bodily infirmity, or wholly or in part unable from any other cause to maintain themselves by their own exertions, and such pensions to be awarded after such investigation of the character and circumstances of the applicants as the said Society or any Committee of its members should think fit or usually adopt in like cases, and having regard to the amount of any assistance which they might reasonably expect from relations employers or others, and such pensions or other relief to be paid or applied or granted to such persons at such times under such regulations and generally in such manner as the said Society or such Committee should appoint. And the testator declared that the said charitable fund might be transferred to the Official Trustees of Charitable Funds or any other trustee or trustees to be nominated by the Charity Organization Society.

Particulars of the trusts declared concerning the bequest for founding scholarships are given in the Report, dated the 4th March 1901, on Scholarships and Prizes administered by the School Board for London, which Report contains also a statement of the modes of investment authorised by the testator and the names and addresses of the executors and trustees of the will.

The moiety of residue bequeathed for charitable purposes as above mentioned, subject to the life interest of the testator's brother, Rowland Henry Wedgwood, has not yet been definitely ascertained, and the said life interest is at present subsisting.
