final is kept in Aeol. and Ion.,
sometimes even in Attic: the inser-
tion of the other is inexplicable,
except as an irregular compensa-
tion for the loss of the v: it is
generally found after a-stems, as
Xwpa-i-s, On3n-s (Od. 4. 126), but
sometimes not, as θυρᾶ-σι, Αθή
