Redeemer's love in leaving His throne of glory, and coming down to live in this sinful world, and to suffer death upon the cross, that all who believe in Him might be saved from their sins, and made partakers of eternal bliss; speak to it of the joys of heaven-of that happy place where there is no more sin, no more sorrow, but where all who have loved the Lord Jesus here below shall dwell with Him for ever; where, as the little hymn says:

Angels will teach us how to sing,

And we shall never tire.

Those only whose happiness it is to bear the maternal name, to be surrounded by a little family of darling children, and to witness the inquiring looks, the eager attention with which they will listen to the instructions of a tender mother, when she invites them to drink with her at the fountain of living waters, can have any idea of the deep interest and heartfelt delight such an employment imparts. She looks around her and feels that little candidates for immortality are committed to her care-she desires,

like Hannah of old, to lend her children to the Lord -to dedicate them to the service of their Saviour; and while she speaks to them of His dying love, His compassionate care, His all-atoning sacrifice for sinners, her own heart is melted within her, and she looks forward with an eye of faith, and with holy joy, to that blessed period when the Lord shall make up his jewels, and when she humbly trusts it may be hers, and their dear father's, to say, "Here are we, and the children whom Thou hast given us." Yes: often will the Christian mother at these times kneel in prayer, with her little ones around her, in order to commit them, one and all, to the tender care of Israel's Shepherd. These are hallowed seasons upon which her children, should they be spared to years of maturity, will look back with affectionate remembrance-seasons, it may be, when their young hearts, softened under the influence of divine grace, shall be drawn out in love to their Saviour; and when such principles shall be instilled as shall guide them through their future lives, and help them to

manual of devotion prove any aid to her in her responsible and delightful duties, how amply will the writer feel repaid! Her prayer is, that God may be graciously pleased to bless the humble endeavour thus to promote His glory, and to lead infant lips to lisp their Saviour's name in accents of adoration and praise.
