Scottish people, the actual result being to embitter the anti-prelatic feelings of the North, and to precipitate the civil war and downfall of Charles I. The catchword, Certaine," on the last leaf was cancelled in most copies, the original intention to add Certain Prayers having been abandoned. Leaf hh 3 in the Psalms was cancelled and reprinted in consequence of an omission discovered in the early copies. In the second of the above copies, some contemporary verses are written on the fly-leaf, sarcastically describing the failure of Archbishop Laud to fost his "service" on "the scurvie Scot."
