JOHN PHENIX.

A WORD TO THE READER.

It is proper to state, that while the following pages are collected with the permission of the Author, and thus presented in a book-form, he has yet himself not been consulted in any manner in relation to the order of arrangement of its contents; and it is quite probable, that his severer taste and better judgment might have operated to exclude some things which are here embraced. The Editor can only say, that preparing the volume hastily for the press, he has done the best he could in the premises; and only begs that the sin of omission or of commission that may be observable in these pages, should not be visited upon the head of the Author.
