Heart of Mary, always exempt from sin,
Heart of Mary, full of grace,

Heart of Mary, blessed amongst all
hearts,

Heart of Mary, throne of glory,
Heart of Mary, abyss of humility,

Heart of Mary, holocaust of divine love,
Heart of Mary, nailed to the cross of
Jesus,

Heart of Mary, comfort of the afflicted,
Heart of Mary, refuge of sinners,
Heart of Mary, hope of the agonizing,
Heart of Mary, seat of mercy,

Pray for us.

Lamb of God, who takest away the sins of the world, spare us, O Lord.

Lamb of God, who takest away the sins of the world, graciously hear us, O Lord. Lamb of God, who takest away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.

. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God. Ry. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

LET US PRAY.

O ALMIGHTY and eternal God, who, in the heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary, didst prepare a fitting dwelling-place for thy Son, grant mercifully, that we who devoutly

commemorate this most pure heart, may live in accordance with its desires: Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Confraternity of the Holy and Immaculate Heart of Mary.

THE Arch Confraternity was founded at Paris, in the Church of Notre Dame des Victoires, December 3rd, 1836, and approved of by Pope Gregory XVI. on the 24th April, 1838, with the privilege of aggregating to itself other like Confraternities.

The principal end of this Confraternity is to pray for the conversion of sinners; and the extraordinary conversions which have been wrought by means of it, are a clear proof how pleasing this institution is to Almighty God.

To thee, O my God, I offer up, through the Holy and Immaculate Heart of the ever Blessed Virgin Mary, all my thoughts, words, and actions, more particularly every exercise of devotion performed for the conversion of all who are unhappily engaged in sin or error; and for the sanctification of those who are members of this pious Association,

Occasional Devotions.

The Devotions of the Quarant Ore;

OR, FORTY HOURS' PRAYER.

THIS devotion continues for forty hours, in memory of the forty hours during which the body of our Lord remained in the sepulchre. It was begun at Milan in 1534, and was introduced into Rome, by St. Philip Neri in 1548, and sanctioned by Pope Clement VIII., who issued a solemn Bull respecting it, November 25th, 1592.

To promote this devotion, Pope Clement XIII. granted a Plenary Indulgence to all those who, confessing their sins and receiving the Holy Communion, should visit any church or chapel where this devotion was being performed.

To gain this Indulgence it is required:-(1°) To visit the Blessed Sacrament once each day during the three days of exposition; and (2°) to to receive the Holy Communion on one of the three days; but not necessarily in the same church or chapel in which the Blessed Sacrament is exposed.

Pope Paul V. also granted an Indulgence of ten years and ten quarantines for every visit made to the Blessed Sacrament thus exposed. These Indulgences are applicable to the Souls in Purgatory.

The forms of Prayers used in this devotion are, the Litany of the Saints, Collects, &c.,

to which may be added the Litany of the Blessed Virgin, the Psalm Miserere, and the Te Deum.

A Devotion in Honour of the Sacred Heart of Jesus,

In Reparation for the Injuries offered to the Blessed Sacrament.

A HYMN.

To Jesus' heart all burning
With fervent love for men,
My heart with fondest yearning
Shall raise its joyful strain.

CHORUS.

While ages course along,
Blest be, with loudest song,
The Sacred Heart of Jesus
By every heart and tongue.

O Heart for sinners riven,
By sheer excess of love;
The spear through thee was driven,
'Twas sin of mine that drove.

O heart for me on fire

With love no tongue can speak,

My yet untold desire

God gives me for thy sake.

Too true, I have forsaken
Thy flock by wilful sin,
Yet, now let me be taken

Back to thy fold again.
