THE EDITORS TO THEIR CORRESPONDENTS

AND READERS.

In closing the labours of another year, the Conductors of this Work offer their best thanks to the Correspondents by whose papers its successive Numbers have been enriched, and to the Subscribers at large. The aim of general edification they have conscientiously pursued, however feebly their own part of the task has been executed. It is their ambition to expound, as far as may be, the views of the great body of Wesleyan Methodists; and they are grateful for many assurances that, in this respect, their past efforts have not quite failed. Fidelity to principle may consist, indeed, with freedom in discussing minor details of its application; and an unquenchable love of the truth, and of Christ's cause, with some diversity of judgment in regard to the interpretation of various sacred texts, and, still more, of passing occurrences. But, in every case, while inclined to gratify writers and readers, the Editors are far more anxious to keep up the Christian, Protestant, and Missionary tone of this OLDEST OF RELIGIOUS PERIODICALS. And if any discriminating friends be tempted to point out deficiencies, these critics are affectionately invited to avenge their disappointment in the best and happiest way, by supplying able articles on the topics which engage their thoughts. So may this Magazine be rendered more and more useful as a vehicle of spiritual and intellectual communication among all our Families, Schools, and Reading Societies.

London, November, 1853.
