Pursues in heaven his gracious plan;
Faithful High Priest of trusting man.
Seated at God's right hand on high,
He bends to earth a brother's eye:
Once fellow-sufferer, he retains
A fellow-feeling of our pains.

With boldness, therefore, at his throne,
We make our kindred sorrows known;
Asking the aid of Jesus' power,

To help in every trying hour.

NOW may the God of peace and love,
Who, from the impris'ning grave,
Brought back the Shepherd of the sheep,
Omnipotent to save-

Through the rich merits of that blood
Which Christ on Calv'ry spilt,
To make th' eternal cov'nant sure
On which our hopes are built-
Perfect our souls in every grace,
T'accomplish all his will;

And all things pleasing in his sight,
Inspire us to fulfil.

O! for the great Messiah's sake,
Accept our humble lay;

And keep us till thy praise we speak,
In heaven's eternal day!

FATHER, though from myself concealed Thou seest my inward frame;

To thee I always stand revealed,
Exactly as I am.

Yet since, by faith's obedience, I
Have put my Saviour on;
'Tis he instead of me, is seen
When I approach thy throne.
What wondrous love! what mysteries
In this appointment shine!
My breaches of God's law are his,
And his obedience mine!

FATHER! whate'er of earthly bliss,
Thy sovereign will denies;

Accepted at thy throne of grace,
Let this petition rise:

Give me a calm and thankful heart,
From every murmur free;
The blessings of thy grace impart,
And make me live to thee.

Let the sure hope that I am thine,
My life and death attend;

Thy love on all my journey shine,
And crown my journey's end.

[blocks in formation]

COME, let our hearts and voices join,
To praise the Saviour's name;

His truth and kindness are divine,
His love remains the same.

With heaven and earth at his command He waits to urge our prayer,

When most we need his gracious hand, His gracious heart is near.

[blocks in formation]

GOD of our fathers, be
Our everlasting friend:

Lord of the dead and living, we
Our souls to thee commend.
Of all the pious dead,

We would the footsteps trace;
Till, gathered round our glorious Head,
We see thee face to face.

[blocks in formation]

WITH joy we meditate the grace,
Of our High Priest above;

His heart is made of tenderness,
His bowels melt with love.
Touched with a sympathy within,
He knows our feeble frame;
He knows what sore temptations mean,
For he has felt the same.

He, in the days of feeble flesh,

Pour'd out strong cries and tears; And in his measure feels afresh,

What every member bears.

Then let our souls, with faith, address

His mercy and his power;

And we shall find delivering grace

In each distressing hour.

UR heavenly Father! hear
The prayer we offer now:

Thy name be hallowed far and near,
And all the nations bow.

Father, thy kingdom come;
On earth thy will in love
Be done by saints, as seraphim
Do all thy will above.

Our daily bread supply,
While by thy word we live ;
The guilt of our iniquity

Forgive, as we forgive.

From dark temptation's power,

From Satan's wiles defend;

Deliver in the evil hour,

And guide us to the end.

Thus humbly taught to pray

By thy beloved Son;

Through him we come to thee, and say— 'All for his sake be done.'

HOW charming is the place,

Where our Redeeming Lord,

Unveils the glories of his face,
By his transforming word.

Here, on the mercy seat,

With radiant glory crowned; In faith, our eyes behold him sit, And smile on all around.

Through him all prayers and cries
Our grateful souls present;

He hears, he pleads our humble sighs,
And gives us all we want.

[blocks in formation]

JESUS says,

"where two or three

Meet together in my name,
There, in 'midst of them, I'll be,
Pard'ning, owning, blessing them."

Lord! to us thou'rt near and dear;
Great thy power, though we are dust :
'Tis thy love dispels our fear,
'Tis thy faithfulness we trust.
He who for us shed his blood,
Pleads for us, nor pleads in vain.
He at the right hand of God
Does by kindness o'er us reign.
Weariness is far from him,
Slumber never veils his eye.
Ever is his care the same

Ever warm his sympathy.

As where thousands seek his face,
Blessings flow through praise and prayer:
We, a feeble few, find grace,

Jesus being present here.

So the sun, in fulgent light,
Shines upon the cot and plain,

With a countenance as bright
As upon a king's domain.
