Came by Christ Jesus (nobler name,}
Descended from above.

Amidst the house of God,

Their different works were done;
Moses a faithful servant stood,
But Christ the faithful Son.

To Christ the Lord's commands,
Be prompt obedience paid:
O'er all his Father's house he stands,
The ever faithful Head.

[blocks in formation]

LORD, from our earliest days,
Thy goodness we have shared :

And still we live to sing thy praise,
By heavenly mercy spared.

Oh! let us never tread
The broad destructive road;
But follow in thy paths, which lead
To heaven, thy bless'd abode.

293. 4-8's & 2-6's.

LOVE divine, how sweet thou art!
When shall I find my wandering heart
All taken up with thee?

O may I daily live to prove,
The sweetness of redeeming love,
The love of Christ to me.

I long to know the love of God;
O may it now be shed abroad,
To fill my feeble heart.

I long to measure love divine,
And make its large dimensions mine;
Be mine this better part.

Hence I would daily, hourly, sit
With Mary, at the Master's feet;
And listen, to be wise,

My only care, delight, and bliss,—
My joy, my heaven on earth, be this,
To hear the Bridegroom's voice.

I also would, with happy John,
Recline my weary head upon

The dear Redeemer's breast;
From care, and fear, and sorrow free,
And find, at length, O Lord, in thee,
My everlasting rest.

[blocks in formation]

LORD, may thy love all hearts engage,
In youth with love to bloom

To fruitfulness in ripening age,-—
To fitness for the tomb.

May every heart, by grace renewed,

Be our Redeemer's throne; And every stubborn will, subdued,

Bow to his will alone.

May faith, and trust, and joy, and love,
Be joined with godly fear;

And all our words and conduct prove
Us grateful and sincere.

May lively hope our souls inspire,
And warm affections rise,

To look for Christ with strong desire,
To mount above the skies.

PRAISE TO GOD AND THE LAMB.

295.

8's & 7's.

THOU fount of every blessing!
Tune our hearts to sing thy praise;
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of grateful praise.
Teach us ever to adore thee;

May we still thy goodness prove;
While the hope of endless glory,
Fills our hearts with joy and love.
Here we raise our Ebenezer,
Hither by thy help we're come,
And we hope, by thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.

Jesus sought us all when strangers,
Wand'ring from thy fold, O God!
And to rescue from all dangers,
Interposed, and shed his blood!
O to grace what heavy debtors
Daily we're constrained to be!
Let thy love, like strongest fetters,
Bind us closer, Lord, to thee.

TO Christ the Lord, let every tongue Its noblest tribute bring:

When his salvation is the song,
Who can refuse to sing ?

He saw me plunged in deep distress;
He flew to my relief;

For me he bore the shameful cross,
And carried all my grief.

To heaven, the place of his abode,
He brings my weary feet;
Shows me the glories of my God,
And makes my joys complete.
Since, from his bounty, I receive
Such proofs of love divine;
Had I a thousand hearts to give,
Lord, they should all be thine!
297.

8's & 7's.

HARK the notes of angels singing-
"Glory! glory to the Lamb!"
Heavenly hosts the tribute bringing,
Lifting high Immanuel's name.
Filled with grateful admiration,
I would vie with hosts above;
This
my theme,- -a free salvation,
Gift of everlasting love.
Endless life in him possessing,
Him I serve, and his I am
Glory, honor, power, and blessing,
Be to God and to the Lamb.

JESUS, thou Sovereign Source of love, My tongue shall sing thy praise;

While I press on to realms above,
I'll triumph in thy grace.

Involved in ruin and undone
By sin and misery;

My Saviour to my rescue ran,-
He shed his blood for me.

His gift of pardon I've received,
And sing aloud for joy;

The Father is in Christ well pleased,
And pleased in him am I.

While angels chant his wonders high,
I'll sing the Lamb has died:
Be this my anthem till I die,—
"Christ, and him crucified!"

[blocks in formation]

COME, let us join our cheerful songs
With angels round the throne;
Ten thousand thousand are their tongues,
But all their joys are one.

"Worthy the Lamb that died," they cry, "To be exalted thus!"

"Worthy the Lamb!" our lips reply,
"For he was slain for us."

Jesus is worthy to receive
Honour and power divine;

And blessings, more than we can give,
Be, Lord, for ever thine.
