About the author (2012)

KATARINA HORAK Professor of Biology at the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology, Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology, Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Slovakia. Professor Horak focused her career on the discovery of new natural and synthetic biologically active compounds with antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anticarcinogenic properties. She is the author/co-author of more than 150 scientific publications, dozens of university textbooks, and specialized book monographs. For many years she has maintained a regimen of healthy food combination and based on her experience wrote a book (The Separated Diet), which was published ten times between 1998 and 2003. In this book, and in companion books (The Separated Diet – And Now What?, Separated Diet Recipes and Portioning, Separated Diet in the Mediterranean, and Separated Diet Cleansing Treatments and Portioning) she provides instructions on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. All these publications were met with great enthusiasm and have been printed multiple times. An incredible 300,000 copies have been sold in the relatively small (population 5 million) country of Slovakia. She also writes on solutions to common health problems, which she has compiled into books (Don‘t Be Afraid of Health, The Health Monitor, Body Detox, and Warning Signals of the Body). Awards: 1984 Silver Medal, Slovak University of Technology. 2008 The Premium Prize, Slovak Literary Fund. At present Dr. Horak teaches at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava in two fields: Food and Human Health and Care for Physical and Mental Health
