These values define the inch and the grain, and are definite, made so by an executive order. All the values of the weights and measures in common use are derived from these values. The following are also fixed by law: A liquid gallon A bushel = 231 cubic inches. =2150.42 cubic inches. In Great Britian there are two systems of weights and measures, the Imperial and the Metric. The relation between the two is fixed by law. The English units of length are less than those in the United States by about three parts in one million. The English grain, and consequently the English measures of weights, are the same as ours. The English gallon is about one-fifth larger than ours, and the English bushel is about 3%.
