Lowndes only mentions two copies, the Grenville and Douce's, the latter wanting title, etc. This is the Ashburnham copy, and no other perfect copy is recorded as having ever occurred for sale by auction. 771 Psalter. The Psalms of King David Paraphrased, and turned into English Verse according to the Common Metre, as they are Usually Sung in Parish Churches, by Miles Smyth, frontispiece by Hollar, contemporary English blue morocco, covered with elaborate gilt scroll lines, and tooling au pointillé, in mosaics, g. e. a fine and wellpreserved specimen, enclosed in new brown morocco slip case, signature of Joseph Esdaile on title, ex-libris of Henry Latham, M.A.

BASSUS. title within woodcut border, fine woodcut initials and ornaments, ruled in red, VERY IMPERFECT, containing only 63 ll. including title and dedication to King James VI of Scotland, and ends on Bb3, wants several intervening ll. and 2 of those remaining are defective, SOLD NOT SUBJECT TO RETURN, contemporary English (Lyonnese) brown calf with rich semis of stars, a gilt and black winged dragon at each corner, and a large shield of the Scottish royal arms in centres, g. e. very well preserved, but the back slightly mended, signature of "Alex. Boswell, Edinb. 1700," and ex-libris of Tho. Ruddiman in cover [See PLATE] sm. oblong 4to. Lugduni, apud Carolum Pesnot, 1579 *** A VERY INTERESTING though imperfect volume. The book is so rare that we cannot trace a collation of it. Anyhow this copy wants about 30 11. beyond the number it actually contains. But it is the DEDICATION COPY TO KING JAMES VI OF SCOTLAND BY THE COMPOSER, JOHN SERVIN, who was probably Master of Music to the King. There was an advocate of Tours, Louys Servin, who translated King James's Basilikon Doron into French, who may have been a relation of the musician, since both appear to have been in the service of King James.

The Calender under the year 1565, mentions the opening of the Dutch Church at Norwich. Only three other copies of the pieces in this volume are known, viz. those in Trinity College, Dublin, and the Bodleian. A VERY RARE AND IMPORTANT EDITION, which contains the general Map of the World by Hans Ruysch, the first giving a true notion of the discoveries in America. It also contains the "Nova Orbis Descriptio," by Marco Beneventano. It contains the autograph of 'PAMPHILI GUERRINI J. C. Pist. et Socie," with his arms, and numerous marginal MS. notes in his hand.

Pressus Argentinae industria Joannis Schotti, 1513, Marcii XII A VERY RARE AND VALUABLE EDITION. It is most remarkable for the two large maps in the Supplement, the first entituled "Orbis typus Universalis juxta Hydrographorum traditionem," with outlying indications of New Spain; the second headed "Tabula Terre Nove" is "The Admiral's Map." "Hic terra cum adjacentibus insulis inventa est per Columbum Januensem ex Mandato Regis Castillae." The last map in the Supplement is that of the Province of LORRAINE, the first map of that province ever done,
