MEDICAL ASSOCIATIONS.

The American Medical Association.

ORGANIZED MAY, 1847.

This is composed of delegates from permanently organized State Medical Societies, and such County and District Medical Societies as are recognized by representation in their respective State Societies, and from the Medical Department of the Army and Navy of the United States, and the U. S. Marine Hospital Service. All who attend as Delegates become henceforth Permanent Members, as long as they remain in good standing in their local society, and pay their annual assessments.

Members of societies as above may at any time become "members by application" on presentation of a certificate signed by the President and Secretary, accompanied with $5 to the Treasurer.

It meets annually; the place and time of meeting for each year being settled at the previous meeting. In 1885 the Association will meet in New Orleans, La., on the last Tuesday in April.

Its object is to unite the educated and reputable pharmaceutists and druggists of the United States.

Every pharmaceutist and druggist of good moral and professional standing, whether in business on his own account, retired from business, or employed by another, and those teachers of pharmacy, chemistry, and botany who may be especially interested in pharmacy and materia medica, are eligible to membership.

American Public Health Association.

ORGANIZED APRIL, 1872.

The objects of this Association are the advancement of sanitary science, and the promotion of organizations and measures for the practical application of public hygiene.

The members are selected with special reference to their acknowledged interest in, or devotion to, sanitary studies and allied sciences, and to the practical applications of the same.

Each candidate is proposed to the Executive Committee in writing (which may be done at any time), with a statement of the business or profession, and special qualifications of the person so proposed. On recommendation of a majority of the Committee, and on receiving a vote of two-thirds of the members present at a regular meeting, the candidate shall be declared duly elected a member of the Association.

The annual fee is five dollars.

Time and place of meeting to be fixed by the Executive Committee.

American Ophthalmological Society.

ORGANIZED JUNE, 1864.

For "the advancement of ophthalmic science and art;" composed of "graduates in medicine in good professional standing, who have an interest in ophthalmic science and art." No member is allowed to attach to his name in any public announcement the title of Oculist, or any similar title, or to publicly announce in print that he gives special and exclusive attention to special practice.

For the advancement of the science of aural medicine and surgery; composed of graduates in medicine, in good professional standing, who have an interest in the ear and its diseases. No member is allowed to attach to his name the title of Aurist, or any similar title, or to announce in print that he gives attention to special practice.

Association of Medical Superintendents of American Institutions for the Insane.

The Association includes past and present Superintendents of Institutions for the Insane in the United States and the British Provinces.

Its object is the discussion of subjects pertaining to this class of patients.

It consists of superintendents, physicians, anddelegates from Boards of Directors of Institutions for the Treatment of Inebriates.

Its objects are the study of inebriety, its proper treatment, etc.
