PREFACE.

OWING to circumstances beyond the control of the Editor, he has been reluctantly compelled to omit several features in the present edition, which he had expected to offer as of value to those who might have occasion to consult the work. For the same reason the issue of the book has been delayed until the close

of the year.

While thanking those who have so promptly and kindly replied to his queries, he regrets to be compelled to say that a very large number have either wholly neglected his requests for information, or have responded at a date too late to be of use.

Every effort has been made to have the data given corrected to the latest moment, and the Editor will be obliged for all information that will render more easy the preparation of the next edition.

W. B. ATKINSON.
