Each discourse was at first printed separately like a news-paper, and some sold even to the astonishing number of twenty thousand in a day.
We must nevertheless own that, notwithslanding the eminent worth of The SPECTATOR, few people have patience enough to read entirely eight large volumes, tliat may
otherwise be only dipped into, each chapter being on particular and various
