FOR THE YEAR

MDCCCXXXIV,

ON SALE AT THE PRICES AFFIXED, BY

THOMAS RODD,

No. 2, GREAT NEWPORT STREET.

"I no sooner come into the Library, but I bolt the door, to me excluding
lust, ambition, avarice, and all such vices, whose nurse is idleness, the mother
of ignorance, and melancholy her self; and in the very lap of eternity, amongst
so many divine souls, I take my seat with so lofty a spirit and sweet content,
that I pity all our great ones, and rich men, that know not this happiness."-
HEINSIUS, quoted by BURTON.

Give me leave

To enjoy myself: that place that does contain

My BOOKS, the best companions, is to me

A glorious court, where hourly I converse
With the old sages and philosophers;

And sometimes for variety, I confer

With kings and emperors, and weigh their counsels;
Calling their victories, if unjustly got,

Unto a strict account, and, in my fancy,

Deface their ill-placed statues. Can I then
Part with such constant pleasures, to embrace
Uncertain vanities? No! be it your care

To augment a heap of wealth; it shall be mine
To increase in knowledge.

FLETCHER.

Price Four Shillings-Allowed to Purchasers.
