XXXII.

AT THE DOCTOR'S.

Doctor. Well, what is the matter with you? Patient. I feel a little out of sorts, and want you to prescribe for me.

D. Please show me your tongue. H'm, it's coated; your stomach is out of order: I must give you an aperient.

P. But my bowels are open every day regularly.

D. That may be, but your stomach is still foul. You have been eating or drinking something that disagreed with you.

P. Ah! it must have been that pork I ate for supper last night.

D. Most likely.

P. It is all right?

Now let me feel your pulse.

D. It beats a little too fast. You are a little

feverish.

P. What is the cause?

D. Wrong diet.

You must be careful what

you eat and drink.

P. What kind of diet do you advise?

D. A milk and fruit diet. Avoid all pastry, wine, and rich fatty foods. Now open your coat, vest and shirt, I will sound your heart and lungs. P. I don't think there's anything wrong with them.

D. No, you are as strong as an ox: you have a constitution of iron, but don't abuse it. P. Will you give me some medicine?

D. Yes, take a dose of this mixture every four hours, and two of these pills every night. P. Thanks! what's your fee?

D. One guinea for medical examination and five shillings for medicine.

P. Here it is, thank you. When shall I call again?

D. In a week.

them. The two front

draw

teeth of the lower jaw must be{stopped. P. Will you use gold{ stoppings

or cement? D. I had better use gold, as the fillings will last a life-time.

P. Very good; when will you begin?

D. I will draw the molars now, and if you come next Monday, I will commence the stopping.

P. How many times must I come?

D. I think I can make a good job of it if you come twice.

P. Will you also scale all my teeth?
D. Yes, I always do so after filling.
(Dentist draws the decayed molars.)

P. Are they out?
