The Bibliotheca Orientalis has for its aim to place in the hands of all who take an interest in Oriental studies a complete list of books, papers etc. on the various branches of Oriental research.

With this end in view I have tried to obtain all the titles of Oriental publications and give them as fully as possible as in some instances I have not been fortunate enough to obtain copies of the works themselves.

At the same time I have included essays, articles etc. published in the periodical literature and since it is almost impossible to give a complete list of them, I hope to have succeeded in collecting as many as the difficulty of the subject will allow.

I hope that this fifth issue, comprising the literature for 1880 will be as kindly received as those of the preceding years.

I shall most thankfully receive any indication of omissions or corrections.
