2 Good-will to sinful men is shown, And peace on earth is given ; For, lo! the incarnate Saviour comes With messages from heaven.
3 Justice and grace, with sweet accord, His rising beams adorn;
Let heav'n and earth in concert join, a Child is born.
4 Glory to God in highest strains, In highest worlds be paid; His glory by our lips proclaim'd And by our lives display'd.
1 AND now, my soul, another year Of thy short life is past; Thou canst not long continue here, And this may be thy last.
2 Awake, my soul, with utmost care, Thy true condition learn;
What are thy hopes, how sure, how fair And what thy great concern?
3. Now a new scene of time begins, Renew thy course for heav'n; Seek pardon for thy former sins, In Christ so freely given.
4 Devoutly yield thyself to God, And on his grace depend,
With zeal pursue the heav'nly road, Nor doubt a happy end.
1 O GOD of Bethel! by whose hand Thy people still are fed; Who through this weary pilgrimage Hast all our fathers led:
2 Our vows, our prayers, we now present Before Thy throne of grace:
God of our fathers! be the God Of their succeeding race.
3 Through each perplexing path of life, Our wand'ring footsteps guide; Give us each day our daily bread, And raiment fit provide.
4 O spread thy fost'ring wings around, Till all our wand'rings cease;
And at Thine ever-blest abode Our souls arrive in peace.
Such blessings from Thy gracious hand Our humble pray'rs implore;
And Thou the Lord shalt be our God And portion evermore.
1 LIFE is the time to serve the Lord, The time t' insure the great reward; And while the lamp holds out to burn, The vilest sinner may return.
2 Life is the hour that God hath giv'n To 'scape from hell and fly to heaven, The day of grace, and mortals may Secure the blessings of the day.
3 Then what my thoughts design to do, My hands with all your might pursue, Since no device, or work is found, Nor faith, nor hope, beneath the ground.
4 There are no acts of pardon pass'd In the cold grave to which we haste; But darkness, death, and long despair Reign in eternal silence there.
1 O GOD, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come; Our shelter from the stormy blast, And our eternal home!
2 Under the shadow of thy throne Thy saints have dwelt secure; And still shall endless love be shown, To make their safety sure.
3 A thousand ages in thy sight Are like an evening gone;
Our lives soon vanish, as the night Before the rising sun.
4 O God, our help in ages past, Our hope for time to come, Preserve us still while life shall last, And bring us safely home.
1 GUIDE us, O thou great Jehovah; Pilgrims through this barren land: We are weak, but Thou art mighty; Hold us with Thy powerful hand.
2 Open Thou the crystal fountain, Whence the living waters flow; Let the fiery cloudy pillar
Lead us all our journey through:
Feed us with the heavenly manna, In this barren wilderness; Be our sword, and shield, and banner; Be the Lord our Righteousness.
When we tread the verge of Jordan Bid our anxious fears subside : Death of death, and hell's destruction, Land us safe on Canaan's side.
BESET with snares on every hand, In life's uncertain path I stand; Saviour divine! diffuse Thy light, To guide my doubtful footsteps right.
2 Engage this roving, treach'rous heart, Great God! to choose the better part; To scorn the trifles of a day,
For joys that none can take away.
3 Then should the wildest storms arise, And tempests mingle earth and skies, No fatal shipwreck shall I fear, But all my treasure with me bear.
4 If Thou, my Saviour, still art nigh, Cheerful I live, and cheerful die; Secure, when mortal comforts flee, To find ten thousand worlds in Thee.
1 O THAT the Lord would guide my ways To keep His statutes still!
O that my God would grant me grace To know and do His will!
2 O send Thy Spirit down to write Thy law upon my heart;
Nor let my tongue indulge deceit, Nor act the liar's part.
