XXIII. And where one other act was made at the first feffion of A repeal of the parliament holden at Westminster in the first year of the reign part of the ft. tute of Ed. 6. of King Edward the fixth, entituled, An act for the repeal of certain c. 12. f. 7. ftatutes concerning treafons, felonies, &c. In the which act, amongst other hereafter fpethings, there is contained certain provifions, pains, penalties and for- cified. feitures, for and against fuch as fhould by open preachings, exprefs words, fayings, writing, printing, overt-deed or act, affirm or Jet forth, that the King of this realm, for the time being, is not or ought not to be the fupream head on earth of the churches of England and Ireland, ne of any of them, or that the bishop of Rome or any other perfon or perfons, other than the King of England for the time being, is or ought to be fupream head of the fame churches, or any of them, as in the fame at last before rehearsed more at large is contained and may appear: (2) be it enacted by the authority of this present parliament, That thefe claufes before rehearfed, and other of the faid act concerning the fupremacy, and all and every branch, article words and fentence in the fame, founding or tending to the derogation of the fupremacy of the pope's holiness, or the fee of Rome, and all pains, penalties and forfeitures made against them that should by any means fet forth and extol the faid fupremacy, fhall be from henceforth utterly void, and of none effect.

XXIV. XXV. We the lords fpiritual and temporal, and the commons, in A fupplication this prefent parliament affembled, reprefenting the whole body of this by the parlia realm, reduced and received by your Majefties interceffion to the unity of Christ's church, and the obedience of the fee apoftolick of Rome, and the pope's holiness governing the fame, make most humble fuit unto your Majefties to be likewife means and interceffors, that all occcafions of contention, hatred, grudge, fufpicion and trouble, both outwardly and inwardly in mens confciences, which might arife amongst us by reafon of difobedience, may by authority of the pope's holiness, and by miniftration of the fame unto us by the most reverend father in God the lord Cardinal Pool, by difpenfation, toleration or permiffion refpectively, as the cafe fhall require, be abolished and taken away, and by authority fufficient thefe articles following, and generally all others, when any occafion fball require, may be provided for and confirmed. XXVI. First, That all bishopricks, cathedral churches, hofpitals, Ecclefiaftical colleges, fchools and other fuch foundations now continuing, made by made fithence

Marriages.

XXVII. Item, That marriages made infra gradus prohibitos confanguinitatis, affinitatis, cognationis fpiritualis, or which might be made void propter impedimentum publicæ honeftatis, juftitiæ, or for any other caufe prohibited by the canons only, may be confirmed, and children born of thofe marriages declared legitimate, fo as those marriages were made according to the laws of the realm for the time being, and be not directly against the laws of God, nor in fuch case as the fee apoftolick hath not used to difpence withal.

XXX. dominion of certain lands and hereditaments, goods and chattels, belonging to the fame, be difperfed abroad, and come to the hands and poffeffions of divers and fundry perfons, who by gift, purchase, exchange, and other means, according to the order of the laws and ftatutes of this realm for the time being, have the fame: (2) for the avoiding all scruples that might grow by any the occafions aforefaid, or by any other ways or means whatfoever, it may please your Majefties to be intercef fors and mediators to the faid most reverend father Cardinal Pool, that "all fuch caufes and quarrels, as by pretence of the faid fchifm, or by any other occafion or mean whatfover might be moved by the pope's bolinefs or fee apoftolick, or by any other jurisdiction ecclefiaftical, may be utterly removed and taken away; (3) fo as all perfons having fufficient conveyance of the faid lands and bereditaments, goods and chattels as is aforefaid, by the comman laws, acts or ftatutes of this realm, may without fcruple of conscience enjoy them without impeachment or trouble by pretence of any general council, canons or ecclefiaftical laws, and clear from all dangers of the cenfures of the church.

XXXI, And conformably hereunto, the bishops and clergy of the province of Canterbury have prefented to your Majefties a fupplication in this tenor that followeth,
