SPEAK GENTLY.

19. C. M.

1 How blest is he who fears the Lord,
And follows his commands;
Who lends the poor without reward,
Or gives with liberal hands.
2 As pity dwells within his breast
To all the sons of need,

So God shall answer his request
With blessings on his head.

3 In times of danger and distress,
Some beams of light shall shine,
To show the world his righteousness,
And give him peace divine.

4 His works of piety and love
Remain before the Lord;

Sweet peace on earth and joys above
Shall be his sure reward.

20. C. M.

1 How shall the young secure their hearts,
And guard their lives from sin?
Thy word the choicest rules imparts
To keep the conscience clean.

2 'Tis like the sun, a heavenly light,
That guides us all the day,
And, through the dangers of the night,
A lamp to lead our way.

3 Thy precepts make us truly wise;
We hate the sinner's road:

We hate our own vain thoughts that rise,
But love thy law, O God!

4 Thy word is everlasting truth:

How pure is every page!

That holy book shall guide our youth,
And well support our age.

1. See Israel's gentle Shepherd stand, With

all engaging charms; Hark, how he calls the

ten- der lambs, And folds them in his arms.

2. "Permit them to approach," he cries,
Nor scorn their humble name,

For 'twas to bless such souls as these,
The Lord of angels came

3. Ye little flock, with pleasure hear,
Ye children, seek his face,

And fly with transport to receive
The blessings of his grace.

NASSAU.

22. C. M.

1 How sweet, how heavenly, is the sight,
When those who love the Lord,
In one another's peace delight,
And so fulfil his word;-

2 When each can feel his brother's sigh,
And with him bear a part;

When sorrow flows from eye to eye,
And joy from heart to heart;-

--

3 When free from envy, scorn, and pride,
Our wishes soar above;

We try each other's faults to hide,
And show a brother's love.

4 Let love, in one delightful stream,
Through every bosom flow;
And union sweet, and dear esteem,
In every action glow.

1 By cool Siloam's shady rill

How sweet the lily grows!
How sweet the breath beneath the hill

Of Sharon's dewy rose.

2 Lo, such the child whose early feet
The paths of peace have trod,
Whose heart, with holy influence sweet,
Is upward drawn to God!

3 By cool Siloam's shady rill

The lily must decay;

The rose that blooms beneath the hill

Must shortly fade away.

4 0 thou! who giv'st us life and breath,
We seek thy grace alone,

In childhood, manhood, age and death,
To keep us still thine own.

All hail the pow'r of Jesus' name, Let

angels prostrate fall; Bring forth the royal diadem,

[graphic]

Ye chosen seed of Israel's race,

A remnant weak and small,A
Hail him who saves you by his grace,
And crown him Lord of all.
Ye Gentile sinners, ne'er forget,
The wormwood and the gall;
Go, spread your trophies at his feet
And crown him Lord of all.

CORONATION.

4 Let every kindred, every tribe On this terrestrial ball,

To him all majesty ascribe,

And crown him Lord of all.

5 And when with yonder sacred throng
We at his feet shall fall,
We'll join the everlasting song,
And crown him Lord of all.

25. C. M.

1 My God! by thy directing power,
The rising light returns;

And high within his morning tower
The sun serenely burns.

2 Thou faithful guardian of my days!
I owe my heart to thee;

To thee my earliest prayers I raise,
And fervent they shall be.

3 Thou hast preserved my sleeping breath
Secure from harm and pain,
While many an eye was closed in death,
And shall not wake again.

4 Oh! thus protect me till the last
Long hour of rest is nigh;

And thus, when death's long sleep is past,
Awake my soul on high.

26. C. M.

1 Come, let us strike our harps afresh
To great Jehovah's name;
Sweet be the accents of our tongues
When we his love proclaim.

2 0, may the Spirit's quick'ning power
Now sanctify our joy,

And warm our zeal in works of love
Our talents to employ.
