George Daniel has written on the fly-leaf: "This is the Roxburghe
Copy, which sold for £4:0:0. I know of no other copy of this date.
In Major Pearson's sale a copy of this Poem in Black Letter printed
by J. Roberts in 1604 occurred in a Volume of Political Tracts. A
copy, wanting the four first Pages, was in the Bib: Anglo Poetica
priced at £3:0:0. A copy (no date) sold in the Chart Park Library
Sale (Sir Chas. Talbot's), Lot 106, at Sotheby's for £7:15:0.
Ritson says, "This very ancient, curious, & popular performance was
apparently composed for the purpose of being sung in publick to the
Harp
As there is no memorial of these celebrated Archers
than this Legend, to which all the passages cited from different
Authors by Bishop Percy are evident allusions, any inquiry as to the
time of their existence must be little else than the sport of imagina-

FIRST EDITION, and a crisp copy. The portrait is a reduced copy of that engraved by John Payne and appearing in Bacon's History of Henry VII issued in 1622.

A Litany

4 ARABIC PRAYER BOOK. Dala'il-ul-Khairát. for Muhammad beautifully written in Arabic with interlinear Persian translation within gold lines on a delicate green ground, upon 134 leaves of bombycine paper. With 18 pages brilliantly illuminated in gold and colors.

Size 7% by 4% inches, in an elaborate Persian lacquered binding, with flap, painted outside and in with flowers in gold and other colors. In a maroon straight-grain morocco case.

Folios 115, verso, and 116, recto, apparently represent the famous Kaabah at Mecca and the Mosque of Medina. There are two seals

of former owners stamped in the volume showing that it belonged to Hussain, A. H. 1217 (Ā.D. 1802), and in A.H. 1226 to Murád Khān, who presented it to Nasrullah Khan.

This Manuscript was exhibited by Mr. Chew at the Grolier Club. With the Hoe bookplate, and with manuscript notes laid in.

This rare pamphlet is an attack by the Puritans on the religious community founded at Little Gidding by Nicholas Ferrar, which is perhaps best remembered to-day by the elaborately embroidered book bindings which its members executed. The little community was swept away before the rising storm in 1647. With the Huth bookplate.

London, 1683. Sold by R. Bently in Covent Garden. S. Tidmarch at the Kings head in Cornhill, &ct. Small 8vo, old mottled calf, sprinkled edges. Emblems 5, 6, 7, 8 were misfolded by the binder, 6, 5, 8, 7. The preliminary leaves, the engraved title-page and frontispiece, the sonnet "Cupid to the Ladies", and the same in French, all have the versos blank. The engraved plates are on the versos of every alternate leaf, beginning with the last unmarked leaf, and the emblems are engraved on the rectos of the following leaves. All the intermediate pages are blank. The verses are in Latin, English, Italian and French. The plates were used in two later editions.

FIRST EDITION. The copy of Thomas Campbell, the poet, with his bookplate, and the H. Buxton Forman bookplate. Some manuscript notes are laid in.

The title-page is signed Jan Van Viaren, and some of the plates are signed by him. Apparently this is a Dutch copy of "Cupids addresse to the Ladies", 1683, as the verses which are English in the original are here Dutch, and the plates are re-engraved, and sometimes reversed. With the H. Buxton Forman bookplate, and manuscript notes laid in. A note by Mr. Chew is on the fly-leaf.

FIRST EDITION. On F2 a former owner has carefully revised one line, preferring the improved reading: "To you ungratefull in my Promised Love." This copy has the license leaf, which is usually wanting. With the W. H. Hagen bookplate. A fine copy of this RARE book.

A remarkably fine copy. This work was first written in Latin by Sebastian Brandt at Basle, about 1494. Barclay has added somewhat to the text. At the end, after "The Index or Table of the Ship of Fooles", is "The Mirrour of good Maners", and following it, "Certayne Egloges". With the Hugh Perkins bookplate.
