Look down therefore from thy fanctuary, and from the place of thy abode in the higheft heavens, and blefs thy people Ifrael, and the land thou haft given us, as thou didst fwear to our forefathers, a land flowing with milk and honey. This day the Lord thy God hath commanded thee to obferve thefe precepts and ordinances, and to keep and fulfill them with all thy heart, and with all thy foul. Thou haft chofen this day the Lord to be thy God, and to walk in his ways, and obferve his ceremonies and precepts, and ordinances, and obey his commands. And the Lord hath made choice of thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he promised thee, that thou may'ft keep all his precepts: and to raife, thee above all the nations which he hath created for his praise, for his name, and for his glory: that thou may'ft be the holy people of the Lord thy God, as he promised thee.

N thofe days: All the priests were in prayer, while the facrifice was offering, Jonathan beginning, and the reft anfwering. And the prayer of Nehemias was after this manner: O Lord God, creator of all things, dreadful and strong, just and merciful, who alone art the good king, alone art excellent, alone juft, and almighty, and eternal, who delivereft Ifrael from all evil, who didft make choice of our forefathers, and didft fanctify them: receive this facrifice in behalf of all thy people Ifrael, and preferve and fanctify thy inheritance: that the Gentiles may know, that thou art our God.

IV. LESSON. Ecclus. xxxvi. 1, 10.

God, of all, have mercy on us, and look up

on us, and fhew us the light of thy mercies: and fend thy terror on the nations, who have not fought after thee, that they may know there is no God befides thee, and that they may publish thy wonders. Lift up thy hand over the foreign nations, that they may fee thy power. For as in their fight thou hast been fanctified in us; fo in our fight fhalt thou be magnified in them, that they may know thee, even as we have known, that there is no God, befides thee, O Lord. Renew thy prodigies, and change thy wonders; glorify thy hand, and thy right arm. Exert thy fury, and pour forth wrath. Deftroy the adverfary, and crufh the enemy. Haften the time, and remember the end, that they may publifh thy wonders, O Lord our God.

But the flame fpread all above the furnace, nine and forty cubits: and it broke forth and burnt thofe of the Chaldees, the fervants of the king, whom it found near the furnace, who kindled it: and the fire touched not Azarias and his companions; it troubled them not, neither did it do them any harm. Then thofe three, as with one mouth, praifed, glorified, and bleffed God in the furnace, faying:

And bleffed is the name of thy glory, which is holy and worthy of praise and glory for ever. Bleffed art thou in the holy temple of thy glory: and worthy of praise and glory for ever.

Bleffed art thou upon the facred throne of thy kingdom: and worthy of praife and glory for ever. Bleffed art thou leaning on the fcepter of thy di vinity and worthy of praise and glory for ever. Bleffed art thou, who fitteft on the Cherubim, beholding the deep: and worthy of praise and glory for ever.

Bleffed art thou, who walkeft on the wings of the winds, and on the waves of the fea: and worthy of praise and glory for ever.

May all the angels and thy holy ones bless thee: may they praise and glorify thee for ever.
