Backsliders, who your mis'ry feel,
Attend your Saviour's call;

Return, he'll your backslidings heal;
O crown him Lord of all.

Let ev'ry kindred, ev'ry tribe,
On this terrestrial ball,
To him all Majesty ascribe,
And crown him Lord of all.

O that with yonder sacred throng,
We at his feet may fall;
We'll join the everlasting song,
And crown him Lord of all.

145. Crown him.

YE saints of God arise, and sing
The glories of our conqu'ring King;
Angels obey th' eternal call,

And join to crown him Lord of all.
Sing of the trophies that he gains;
By death, o'er death he ever reigns:
He reigns, to raise us from our fall;
O praise him, crown him Lord of all.
O'er death triumphant, and the grave,
Rising, he proves his pow'r to save:
His rising pow'r and grace extol;
For ever crown him Lord of all.

Lo, now the Intercessor stands,
And spreads for us his bleeding hands:
He reigns above, and ever shall

Be

sung

and crown'd the Lord of all. K

[blocks in formation]

LET saints on earth their anthems raise,
Who taste the Saviour's grace;
Let saints in heav'n proclaim his praise,
And crown him Prince of Peace'.
Praise him who laid his glory by
For man's apostate race;

Praise him who stoop'd to bleed and die,
And crown him Prince of Peace'.

6

Come, rebels, lay your weapons down,
Let war for ever cease;

Immanuel for your sovereign own,

And crown him Prince of Peace'.

We soon shall reach the blissful shore,
To view his lovely face,

His name for ever to adore,

And crown him Prince of Peace'.

147. The Sun of Righteousness.

LIGHT of those whose dreary dwelling
Borders on the shades of death,
Come, and by thy love's revealing
Dissipate the clouds beneath:
The new heav'n and earth's creator
In our deepest darkness rise,
Scatt'ring all the light of nature,
Pouring eye-sight on our eyes.
Still we wait for thy appearing;
Life and joy thy beams impart;

Chasing all our doubts, and cheering
Ev'ry poor benighted heart:
Come, and manifest the favour

God hath for our ransom'd race;
Come, sweet Advocate and Saviour,
Come, and bring thy gospel-grace,
Save us in thy great compassion,
O thou mild, pacific Prince!
Give the knowledge of salvation,
Give the pardon of our sins:
By thy all-sufficient merit
Ev'ry burden'd soul release;
By the shinings of thy Spirit
Guide us into perfect peace.

148. Adoring Christ.

LET us all unite to bless

Jesus Christ our joy and peace:
Let our praise to him be giv'n,
High at God's right hand in heav'n.

Master, lo! to thee we bow,
Thou art Lord, and only thou:
Hail, thou blessed virgin's seed!
Endless glory crown thy head!

All thine angels ceaseless sing,
Thee our Prophet, Priest, and King;
Worthy is thy name of praise,
Full of glory, full of grace!

Thou hast gladsome tidings brought
Of salvation by thee wrought;

Wrought for all thy church, and we
Worship in their company.

We thy little flock, adore
Thee, the Lord, for evermore :
Ever with us shew thy love,
Till we join thy hosts above.

149.

Praise to Christ.

Now let us join with hearts and tongues,
And emulate the angels' songs:
Yea, sinners may address their King
In songs that angels cannot sing.

They praise the Lamb who once was slain;
But we can add a higher strain;

6

Not only say He suffer'd thus,
But that he suffer'd all for us.'
When angels by transgression fell
Justice consign'd them all to hell;
But mercy form'd a wondrous plan
To save and honour fall'n man.
Jesus, who pass'd the angels by,
Assum'd our flesh to bleed and die;
And still he makes it his abode;
As man he fills the throne of God.
Our next of kin, our brother now
Is he to whom the angels bow;
They join with us to praise his name,
But we the nearest int'rest claim.
But ah! how faint our praises rise!
Sure, 'tis the wonder of the skies,

That we who share his richest love
So cold and unconcern'd should prove.
O, glorious hour, it comes with speed!
When we, from sin and darkness freed,
Shall see the God who dy'd for man,
And praise him more than angels can.

150. Redeeming Love.

Now begin the heav'nly theme.
Sing aloud in Jesu's name;
Ye, who Jesu's kindness prove,
Triumph in redeeming love.
Ye, who see the Father's grace,
Beaming in the Saviour's face,
As to Canaan on ye move
Praise and bless redeeming love.
Mourning souls dry up your tears,
Banish all your guilty fears;
See your guilt and curse remove,
Cancell'd by redeeming love.
Ye alas! who long have been
Willing slaves of death and sin,
Now from bliss no longer rove,
Stop, and taste redeeming love.
Welcome all by sin opprest,
Welcome all to Jesus Christ;
Nothing brought him from above,
Nothing but redeeming love.
He subdu'd the infernal pow'rs,
His tremendous foes and ours,
