According to Ireland (Graphic Illustrations of Hogarth, p. 104) the Mock Doctor is a portrait of Theophilus Cibber who first played the part, and that Kitty Clive established her reputation as an actress in this piece. THE AUTHOR OF THE COMEDY WAS HENRY FIELDING THE NOVELIST. Ireland also says that a copy of this print was sold, before 1794, for £5 5s.
