GAI IULI CAESARIS DE BELLO GALLICO COMMENTARIORUM I. Edited, for the use of Schools, BY ARTHUR S. WALPOLE, M.A., FORMERLY SCHOLAR OF WORCESTER COLLEGE, OXFORD, WITH NOTES AND VOCABULARY. London: MACMILLAN AND CO., AND NEW YORK. 1886. PREFACE. THE text of this edition agrees in the main with those of Kraner (edited by Dittenberger) and Doberenz. The notes are the results of actual teaching, corrected and supplemented by a careful examination of the best commentaries, that of Professor Doberenz being perhaps the most serviceable The plan of this edition precluded any notes o the text, but I have in all cases kept the manusc pt reading where possible, this applying also to he spelling adopted. It is well to mention that the Notes and Vocabulary are meant to be used together, as supplementing each other: and in the Vocabulary I have used the vocabularies of Creak and Eberhard (revised by Dr. A. Dräger), and that of Dr. Ignaz Prammer. For many corrections and valuable suggestions I am indebted to the Rev. J. Bond, M.A. 267989 |
