fast!-on the floor. Now one day the cat was at play, and she held the reel of silk in her paw, and she held up the reel of silk as high as her paw could reach, and then she let the reel of silk fall from her paw to the floor, and the reel spun round so fast, so fast on the floor. So the cat must have said, in her way,

"If the reel spins round so fast when I let it fall from my paw, it will spin round twice as fast if I get on a chair, and then let it fall from my paw as I sit on the chair.’

"So the cat got on a chair, and held her paw up high, and let the reel fall, and it spun round, oh, so fast, so fast! And the cat thought this fine fun, and the cat said, in her`way,

"If the reel spins so fast when I get on a chair, it will spin still more fast if I could get to the top of that book-case, and let it drop from there.'

So the cat got to the top of the book-case, and when she got to the top, she sat, and did look down, and she must have thought,

:'

"Now it is a long, long way to the floor : For she held up her paw quite high, and let the reel fall, and the reel ran and spun, and spun and ran, and the cat did think this fine fun.

"And when the cat had done her game, then the cat did pick up the reel, and went and put it by in a safe place, for she said, in her way,

"If I put by the reel, I shall know where to find the reel when I want to play once more, but if I do not put by the reel, how can I tell but that some one may take my reel? and then I should not see my reel spin and run more.'

"So the cat put by its toy, and the toy was quite safe when she did want to play once more."

"That was a sly cat to put by its toy. I must do the same, then I shall have my toys all safe when I want a game of play."
