light green, each being attached by gold cord to the trunk of a sepa-
rate tree, the corners are filled with a splash of Roger Payne tooling,
with a centre jewel inlaid in red, an extremely original design and
very beautiful emblematic binding, by R. Riviere. T. B. for H.
Mosley, at the Prince's Armes in S. Paule's Church-yard, 1640.
$165.00

The First Edition.

Dodona's Grove is a celebrated allegory, representing the state of Europe at the period. It is a very curious book, and the first edition is a desirable acquisition for the collector. As a piece of literature it reads to us now as dull and pedantic. Howell was somewhat devoid of humour; he was full of "conceits," however, and by no means badly informed, as one may judge from his writings.
