E give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jefus Chrift, praying always for you, fince we heard of your faith in Chrift Jefus, and of the love which ye have to all the faints; for the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the Gofpel; which is come unto you, as it is in all the world, and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth alfo in you, fince the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth. As ye alfo learned of Epaphras our dear fellow-fervant, who is for you a faithful minister of Chrift; who alfo declared unto us your love in the Spirit. For this caufe we alfo fince the day we heard it, do not ceafe to pray for you, and to defire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will, in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleafing, being fruitful in every good work, and increafing in the knowledge of God; itrengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and long-fuffering, with joyfulnefs, giving thanks unto the Father, who hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the faints in light.

F thou fhalt confefs with thy mouth the Lord Jefus, and fhalt believe in thine heart, that God hath raised him from the dead, thou fhalt be faved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteoufnefs, and with the mouth confeffion is made unto falvation. For the fcripture faith, Whosoever believeth on him, fhall not be afhamed: For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: For the fame Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whofoever thall call upon the Name of the Lord, shall be saved. How then fhall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how hall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how fhall they hear without a preacher? and how fhall they preach, except they be fent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the Gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! But they have not all obeyed the Gospel. For Efaias faith, Lord, who hath believed our report? So then, faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. But I fay, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their found went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world. But I fay, Did not Ifrael know? First, Mofes faith, I will provoke you to jealoufy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you. But Efaias is very bold, and faith, I was found of them that fought me not; I was made manifest unto them that afked not after me. But to Ifrael he faith, All day long I have ftretched forth my hands unto a difobedient and gainfaying people.

Saint Thomas the Apoftle.
The Collect

Lmighty and everlasting God, who for the more confirmation of the faith, didft fuffer thy holy Apoftle Thomas to be doubtful in thy Son's refurrection; Grant us fo perfectly, and without all doubt, to believe in thy Son Jefus Chrift, that our faith in thy fight may never be reproved. Hear us, O Lord, through the fame Jefus Chrift, to whom with thee and the Holy Ghost be all honour and glory, now, and for evermore. Amen.

TOW therefore ye are no more ftrangers and foreigners, but fellow-citizens with the faints, and of the houfhold of God, and are built upon the foundation of the Apoftles and Prophets, Jefus Chrift himself being the chief corner-stone; in whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord; in whom ye alfo are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

PARAPHRASE

On the COLLECT for St Thomas's Day.

O Almighty and everlasting God, who didft fuffer the holy apostle, St Thomas, to doubt for fome time of the truth of our Saviour's refurrection, fo that by the recording of that circumftance in the Holy Scripture, together with the compleat fatisfaction which he obtained therein, thou haft given us a more full confirmation of our faith; grant us fuch a steady belief in thy Son our bleffed Lord, and in every particular of his holy religion, that our faith may be unexceptionable in thy fight. We befeech thee, O Lord, to hear thefe our prayers, through the merits of the fame Jefus Chrift out Lord, to whom with thee and the Holy Ghost, be all honour and glory, now and for evermore. Amen.
