himself; he was very much ashamed, though Lucy did all she could to excuse and hide his fault. Susan, at length, was satisfied with his behaviour, and, when she thought he had had lesson enough to do him good, she came back to her own good-natured way, and laughingly advised Master Arthur to remember, that Bee and Boasting began with the same letter; and then she sang a little song that had not much to do with the incident :

"A swarm of Bees in May,
Is worth a load of hay;
A swarm of Bees in June,
Is worth a silver spoon;
A swarm of Bees in July,
Is not worth a fly."

In this way passed the time with Susan, and I think you will not be surprised that the children felt happy with her, for she was always good-humoured, and just and kind, and being a good and clever girl, who had paid attention when she was young, she was able to teach others many things, and tell them what was right and what was wrong.
