Hoccleve was the contemporary of Chaucer; notices of him will be found in
Warton's History and Pitson's Bib. Poet.

This first edition of Holinshed is the only one which gives the genuine text.
the later editions it is much altered, and the wood cuts omitted. This is
commonly called the Shakspeare edition, and is rarely found perfect; this
copy is quite so.

The Steevens' copy sold for £22, and a copy at a recent sale for £31. 10.

The present copy is very fine, in perfect condition, on clear and very large paper.
