"The above L. J. M. Haussoullier, a French Jew, was one of the fortunehunters of that time. He dined with others at Richardson's Coffee House, in Covent Garden, Jan. 18th, 1796, and drew a check for 217. upon Messrs. Hammersley, for which Mr. Richardson gave him the balance, which enabled him to set off with his most particular frend, Gilrary Pigott, to Bath, in pursuit of Miss Trist, the only child of a tailor in Surrey Street, Strand, supposed heiress to 40,000l.; on his arrival at Bath he carried off Miss Trist, and married her at Gretna Green, but on his return he found out it was not the object of his pursuit, but Miss E. Ashford Trist, of Totness, a young lady of good fortune (the above estates), though not equal to the object of his pursuit. He was naturalised in 1767; sold all the above estates, broke the heart of his wife, and became as poor as ever; in 1811, he was stated to have been concerned in the poisoning of some horses at Newmarket."-Extract from a MS. note by the late Mr. Richardson. 10 Acta Canonizationis S.
