It seems extraordinary, that he should have expended so much labour unnecessarily : for he has taken in hand to vindicate, where there wés no grievance; and to maintain what was never denied. Not one syllable is to be found in the Treatise, which he is pleased to oppose, that at all derogates from the character of the Poet: on the contrary, there appears every mark of the highest admiration. To this Vindication another is annexed of the Ancient Poets and Historians, who have recorded the siege and fall of Troy.
