NEWTON'S IMPROVED DISSOLVING VIEW APPARATUS, The Apparatus is here shown fitted with Newton's Improved Oxycalcium light,-a jet of oxygen gas is thrown through the flame of a spirit-lamp on to a lime-cylinder fixed at some little distance from it; by this means a most brilliant light is obtained, scarcely inferior to the oxy-hydrogen, with half the trouble, and without any of the danger-the oxygen alone being perfectly harmless. The great inconvenience of the lime shifting when hung on a small wire, as in the ordinary Oxycalcium Light, is here obviated by putting the cylinder on a fixed wire. For private exhibition this Apparatus is fitted with powerful Argand Fountain Oil Lamps. * |
