2 I'd rather be of humblest state,
And in thy sacred courts appear,
Than reign the greatest of the great
Strangers to grace and holy fear.

3 For God is like a sun and shield;
Glory and grace by Him are given;
No blessing has He e'er withheld
From those that seek their joy in heaven.

4 Then bless'd, for ever bless'd are those

Who trust, O God of hosts, in Thee!
Who on thy saving love repose
To give them life and liberty.

Ps. xc. (St. Anne's. )

1 O God! our help in ages past
Our hope for years to come;
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home!

2 Before the hills in order stood,
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same.

3 A thousand ages in thy sight

Are like an evening gone;

Short as the watch that ends the night,
Before the rising sun.

4 Time, like an ever rolling stream,
Bears all its sons away;

They fly, forgotten, as a dream
Dies at the opening day.

Ps. xcii. (St. Mark's.)

1 Sweet is the work my God and King
To praise thy name, give thanks and sing;
To show thy love by morning light,
And talk of all thy truth at night.

2 In Thee my heart shall triumph, Lord, And bless thy works, and bless thy word: Thy works of grace, how bright they shine; How deep thy counsels! how divine!

30 may I see, and hear, and know,
What man can ne'er attain below;
And all my powers find sweet employ
In that eternal world of joy,

Ps. c. 1st Version.

1 All people that on earth do dwell,

Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice; Him serve with fear, his praise forth tell; Come ye before Him and rejoice.

2 The Lord, ye know, is God indeed;
Without our aid He did us make:
We are his flock, He doth us feed,
And for his sheep He doth us take.

3 0 enter then his gates with praise; Approach with joy his courts unto; Praise, laud, and bless, his name always, For it is seemly so to do.

4 For why? the Lord our God is good,
His mercy is for ever sure;

His truth at all times firmly stood,
And shall from age to endure.

Ps. c. 2nd Version.

1 Before Jehovah's awful throne,
Ye nations bow with sacred joy;
Know that the Lord is God alone ;
He can create and He destroy.

2 His sovereign power without our aid
Made us of clay, and formed us men;
And when, like wandering sheep we strayed,
He brought us to his fold again.

3 We'll crowd thy gates with thankful songs,
High as the heavens our voices raise:
And earth with her ten thousand tongues
Shall fill thy courts with sounding praise.

4 Wide as the world is thy command;
Vast as eternity thy love;

Firm as a rock thy truth shall stand,
When rolling years shall cease to move.

29.

Ps. ciii. (Hamilton.)

1 The Lord our God is merciful,

His love is infinite:

He saw us on the brink of hell,
And drew us from the pit.

He spared us when our hearts were held
In folly's fruitless ways;
He taught us thro' his Spirit's might,
To sing a Saviour's praise.

2 The Lord our God is merciful,
Our life to Him is dear,

Oft has He raised our drooping souls,
And chased our needless fear.

Oft are our dearest earthly friends,
From threatening death restored,
And shall we not confide upon
The mercy of the Lord ?

3 The Lord our God is merciful,
He rescued us from pain,
He heard us in the hour of need,
He'll hear our cry again.

O let our spirits trust in God,
To Him with thankful mind,
The earnest prayer of faith address,
And leave all fear behind.

Ps cvi. (Cedar.)

10 Render thanks to God above,
The fountain of eternal love;
Whose mercy firm through ages past
Has stood, and shall for ever last.

2 Who can his mighty deeds express,
Not only vast but numberless ?
What mortal eloquence can raise
His tribute of immortal praise ?
