Fellow-Citizens, Friends of Mr. Northmore.

No one is now barefaced enough to deny the oppressive and unnatural coalition, which an overbearing Tory faction has made with their hitherto opponents, in order to crush, if they can, the first beginning of constitutional election.

We printed letters to you five days ago, to inform you of this, but some elder men of the city, assured us that it was not the case, and we suppressed them. They are now laughing at us, because we thought them honest men and were deceived.

We have polled 117 plumpers, which would have given us a majority, with fair play. But every one, whether friend or opponent, acknowledges that we have been unfairly served, and have received most partial and oppressive treatment, from whence justice alone ought to emanate.

Your professed opponents should have recollected, that even if you are, (as they say) on the mistaken side, you are at least honest in your intentions; that you receive neither bribe nor gratification for your vote, but the gratification, (which we wish they knew the value of,) of speaking according to your con-. sciences.

Had they not, (bad philosophers!) forgotten this, they would not have adopted that conduct towards you which naturally forces you into a determined and invincible resistance.

Freemen it is not the cause of an individual, it is the cause of many. Be firm, and patient, and you shall yet succeed.

Committee for the election of

MR. NORTHMORE.
