The Laghu-Yoga-Vasistha is a shorter version of the Yoga-Vasistha also known as Brhad-Yoga-Vasistha or the larger Yoga-Vasistha to show the contrast. This abridgement of the bigger work contains about 6000 verses whereas the latter comprises about 32,000. In this abridged text almost all the words of the bigger one are reporduced verbatim but the author has extracted the quintessence after clipping the expansive descriptions etc. The work was undertaken by one Abhinanda, a great Kashmirian Pandit. The text also has a commentary called Vasistha-candrika by Atmasukha. The Yoga-Vasistha is a popular text on Advaita Vedanta. It is greatly valued for the wisdom it contains and enjoys a popularity rivalled only by the Bhagavadgita and the Bhagavata Purana.
